So--can anyone who's seen the film and knows who Charles Lane is tell
me if he is indeed in the film?
Thank you.

One of the great character actors of film and television. Is he indeed still
alive? Haven't heard anything of him in ages.

Yes, he's still with us. Most sources indicate he was born in 1905, but Lane
himself claims to have been born in 1899! So he is either 97 or 103 years old!
On the other hand, based on the commercials that have been airing on TV (I
wouldn't spend $10 on an Adam Sandler film unless it featured very little
Sandler and lots of female nudity to remove the memory of Sandler actually
being in the movie) there is an actor who bears a superficial resemblance to
Charles Lane, but without the Homer Bedloe crabbiness that his face always
had and has.

Yeah, but it isn't Lane. Someone in this or another newsgroup even went so far
as to ask the film's producer. Lane is not in the movie.
Better yet, ask the casting director. Unless an actor is in one of the top
five or six roles in a film, there's a good chance the producer doesn't have
a clue who he is. If it's a tiny bit part, the producer almost without
doubt won't know who the person is, at least after thirty seconds beyond the
moment of meeting him. Casting directors have much more direct knowledge of
the actual identities of the people in a picture, down to the bit parts,
than a producer normally would, because the CD calls them, auditions them,
hires them, does their contracts, and makes sure they show up. The producer
generally nods at a bit player and says, "Sure, him, fine."

Too bad. I was hoping Mr. Lane, at 97, was actually well enough to have made a
cameo appearance. Then again, maybe he *is* well. Well enough to know he didn't
want to be in an Adam Sandler movie!
