I saw this movie, Hannibal Jones, in the early seventies or so
and never have seen it again anywhere. Has anyone seen it on video?

Hello, Randy.

I've never heard of 'Hannibal Jones' [that's not to say it doesn't
exist, of course].

Aren't you thinking, perhaps, of "Hannibal Brooks" (1969) - starring
Oliver Reed as a British P.O.W. who has been assigned to evacuate a
valuable elephant from Munich zoo during WWII. The assignment, however,
turns into an escape after he is forced to go on foot.

Regards,

Thank you Daniel, that sounds like it. Oddly, I don't recall
the elephant, but Reed as the British POW is familiar . Also I remember
him on the run and eventually causing a German train loaded with panzers
to crash in the mountains.
Is Hannibal Brooks on video in the UK? I would have found it here in
the states (even with the name confusion) if it was availiable.

Hannibal Brooks is not available on video, but MGM/UA does have a habit
of occasionally releasing very obscure films, so who knows. Michael J.
Pollard is the co-star and Francis Lai (Love Story, A Man and A Woman)
did the score.

It's difficult to miss!
Although I like Oliver Reed, it's the elephant, I think, that's the real
star of the movie.

That's the one.

I've just telephoned 'HMV' for you, to find out. Apparently it's not.
