Teacher's Pet(1958)
Doris Day, Clark Gable, Gig Young.

Slick comedy that has aged very well. Shot in black and white so that the age difference between Day and Gable wouldn't be so obvious - Cary Grant and James Stewart were first offered the Gable role but both turned down because they felt they were too old for the part - as it happened they were both younger than Gable. Despite all that the movie works superbly due to the professionalism of the cast and writers. Very elegant comedy with touches of sentiment. Great support from Gig Young - his hangover scene is priceless.

My favorite Gig Young/Doris Day movie had Cary Grant in it.

That'll be _That Touch of Mink_. I liked it to. The scenes in the automat bring back fond memories. When I was in New York I ate in them all the time.

Can't believe that the last New York Horn & Hardart Automat (on the
southeast corner of 42nd Street and Third Avenue) closed in April
1991.

I ate there a few times, too.

I remember seeing this in the early 60's on TV (if memory serves) and
thought that Gable was a real old guy and so the relationship seemed
creepy and illogical. Doesn't he wear an A-shirt in it or something.
It seemed there were a couple of markers that made him seem wildly out
of her age range.
