I watched the 1992 movie Basic Instinct last Sat. and want to know who did the
killing? Was it the police psycharist or was it Sharon Stones character?

In an interview with Movieline a couple of years ago, Paul Verhoeven himself
confirmed that the actual killer was the Sharon Stone character.

As Roger Ebert astutely points out in his review of BASIC INSTINCT,
the question is completely meaningless. Every bit of evidence in
the movie points both ways.

The clue is given at the very last scene, when the camera travels down to
reveal an icepick under the bed.

Not really, the evidence in favor of Sharon Stone's character being the killer
is pretty overwhelming, imo. Never the end, the way Michael Douglas'
character's partner dies is described in the preceding scene on pages of Stone's
latest book coming off the printer (freeze-frame helps to read it). And the
very last scene is of an icepick under Stone's side of the bed, that she was
reaching for before changing her mind about killing Douglas (which would've been
stupid given how well she just setup Jeanne Tripplehorn's psychiatrist
character).

Unless you are sleeping with her. :)

What Verhoeven says isn't the point, unless he can prove that this is
the only inference to be drawn from the script. The ice pick doesn't
prove anything. And what about Tripplehorn"s husband--how are we going
to tie Stone to that one? Why had Tripplehorn kept so many secrets
about herself?

It's a great movie.
