There was a promising young actor in the '70's who co-starred with
Jeff Bridges in 1 movie, appeared in a couple others. The only
mention of him I can find in a reference book says, "Actor who
shot himself."

Does anybody here know more about Brown, like why he did that?

Barry Brown starred in Peter Bogdanovich's DAISY MILLER, and in the
aforementioned Jeff Bridges Western, BAD COMPANY. He was also a film
historian who wrote for various film journals including the one I used to
write for, Films in Review. I never met him, but those of my
acquaintance who knew him spoke highly of him, and his writing and
research were good. I have no idea why he killed himself.

He was also in 1974's "Daisy Miller" with Cybill Shepherd. I remember
reading years ago in one of the "better" film magazines that Brown
toward the end of his life had some sort of relationship (perhaps just
a friendship) with Allison Hayes of "Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman" fame.
It's this aspect of Brown's life I want to know more about.
