Does anyone have insights as to why the Carl Reiner-directed film "The
Comic" with Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney is nowhere to be seen, or
had as a DVD? (And Van Dyke's heist comedy "Fitzwilly" is also missing
in action...)

Both are available (always check Alibris) but at a price - "The
Comic" (on VHS) is $100 USD, "Fitzwilly" a mere $50 USD
Both may be available (I haven't checked) on Laserdisk - but you need
the player.

I remember THE COMIC being very good. A great showcase for both Van
Dyke and Rooney's considerable comic talents. I haven't seen it in
decades, though.

Nothing with Dick Van Dyke in it can be good.
He's awful, just awful. Not funny in any conceivable metric. I'd sooner put my
nuts in a vise than watch anything with that lush.

THE COMIC was released on LD, FITZWILLY was not. For the latter film
I've made do with a letterboxed version taped off TCM.

A very good movie in many ways. Van Dyke is pretty amazing as a sort of
Stan Laurel without the charm.

That would make a funny scene. I'd pay to see it.
