Here's the story of "Divine Rapture" - Brando, Depp, Winger and Hurt in
Ireland. How could it possibly go wrong?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/nov/26/brando-depp-divine-rapture

"Fourteen years later, Divine Rapture is still the elephant in the room.
"It's not really talked about at all," says Paddy Egan, as he drives a
minibus through the winding roads of Cork. "I'd say some people wouldn't
talk about it because of the amount of money they lost - they'd be
embarrassed. People in town were badly stung. I was lucky, but some were put
out of business." Egan, who provided transport for the film, moved his
coach-hire business to another town after the production collapsed, and says
he lost around 6,600 in bounced cheques. Everyone from local police to
caterers to fishermen were unpaid and the village hotel, the Bayview, is
reportedly owed tens of thousands.
...
Brando phoned Eberhardt asking if they could meet at 11pm.
"I said, 'No, Marlon, I'm too tired. I've been rehearsing all day.' Then he
said, 'I'm going to shave my hair off and wear an orange wig'. Panic set in:
'Get me a car!' As I pulled in, the hair and make-up people were leaving.
This guy comes down the stairs looking like a dick with ears. Bald as a
buzzard. Barry and his partners were in Ballycotton celebrating because, at
long last, their movie was going to start shooting. I stumbled in and must
have been white as a sheet because they asked me if I was sick. I said, 'We
have to talk about Marlon Brando.' I thought I could handle this guy, but
after one meeting, I wasn't so sure." "

On PBS years back--I can still remember Emlyn Williams hissing "Mr.
Sternberg--I beg his pardon, Mr. VON Sternberg."
That and narrator Dirk Bogarde, who sounded like he was trying to get
cast in the thing.

Orson Welles' _THE DEEP_ - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0209994/

The movie was filmed by another company years later as _DEAD CALM_.

Does anyone here have any recent news about "The Other Side of the Wind",
for which sufficient footage exists to edit it into a finised film?

Just the usual "it's coming, it's coming, Real Soon Now" noises we've been
getting for years.

How about "The Day the Clown Cried," 1972?

I've never seen it of course, but having read the screenplay I believe
this film just might belong in a more interesting category: Completed
major films so distasteful, so stupifyingly bad, so misguided, so
embarrassing to all concerned, that they must never be released.

That must be a very interesting film then going by the huge numbers
which are released and qualify for your description.

"Gangs of New York"?
Still waiting for the Director's Cut DVD, which will supposedly
include an ending, and the plot.

The film was finished, Harry Shearer got to see it and wrote an essay
about it. I don't have a link, but some appropriate Googling might turn it
up.
