This film is as good as if not better than GOVINDA'S
last two DAVID DHAWAN starrers, RAJA BABU and COOLIE NO. 1.
Govinda shows that he is the most suitable actor for a David
Dhawan film, and his flair for comedy is shown greatly in
Saajan Chale Sasural. The audience knows this too and by the
response Saajan Chale Sasural is getting in India right now,
it will be one of the biggest hits so far in 1996.
Let's wait and see how Boney Kapoor's LOAFER and
MANMOHAN DESAI'S DEEWANA-MASTANA turn out, both films star
ANIL KAPOOR and Juhi Chawla (D-M also stars GOVINDA) and are
directed by David Dhawan. It will be interesting to see
if the Dhawan magic only works with Govinda
This is also a family-social film catering to the masses.
Trust me, even if you're not a Govinda fan, there is still a
chance you will like this film. For any people wanting a
thorough review of this film, just send me e-mail, I do not
want to post it as I always get carried away when reviewing
a Govinda film, and I end up revealing the whole story.

I guess I am not as big a fan of Govinda as Akhlaq, but imo, the film is
simply superb! Don't miss it. And while you are watching all the fun, take
some time off to admire the thinking and control going on behind the scenes.
And expect to be taken for on a ride of masala entertainment
David-Dhawan-ishtyle. :)
In the future, the way we analyse the films of certain directors, I expect
David Dhawan to be featured among those guys. In this movie, you can safely
say that he has perfected his formula film (just as you could say that for
Manmohan Desai after watching Naseeb). The guy is simply amazing. His blend
of spoofiness, combined with comedy, a li'l bit of drama, some nice dances
is incredibly palatable. May we get to see more of his films before he also
goes down a la Manmohan Desai.
Curiously enough, the magic seems to get dimmed if there is anybody else
starring in the movie except Govinda and KK. Again the similarity to
Manmohan Desai and his association with Mr. Bachchan comes to mind. I think
that Govinda & KK are ideally suited for the kind of characters portrayed in
his films. The hero needs to have a sense of comedy, some amount of
street-smartness but not mixed with wily cunning (AnilK fails the test here,
mHo... whenever he plays a roadside mawaali a certain cunning enters into
the portrayal... not so with Govinda), suddenly deliver an emotional
dialogue which will have a cliched situation but non-cliched dialogues
(Kadar Khan is the dialogue writer in this particular case) and break out
into appropriate dance bits which may or may not have a certain sense of
vulgarity ( take that to mean non-appropriateness with the classy waltzing
kind of dance rather than just "vulgar" == cheap) and commonality. And
Govinda is definitely the person who can get all that into the portrayal. KK
on the other hand has to look sweet, svelte (KKK is the best ..... KKK of
course stands for Karisma Kapoor's kamar !! :) :) ), capable of matching
Govinda in the dances (Tabu at times looked taller than Govinda :) ),
provide a suitable foil for Govinda's comedy and play the village belle to
perfection. Another advantage that KK has, is that she is no big actress
(Juhi did not fit in.... she was running for No. 1... distracts from the
main focus of the film i.e. mauj mastee :) ) as far as standing in the
industry goes.
Btw, Q here, is the guy that Satish Kaushik encounters in the phone booth
David himself in a hitchcockian appearance? :) Nice snappy dialogue ensues
there too. :)
Later,
Ikram.
This movie is really a remake of the telugu movie 'Allary Mogudu'. I
also remember seeing a similar movie in Tamil with Rajni in the lead. I
think that movie's name was 'Veera'.
