I saw a trailer for a new film coming out called THE GREAT ROBBERY.
It is directed by Ram Gopal Verma and stars Sridevi and Nagarjuna and music
is by Raj Koti. Is this a re-make of a Southern film. If so, does anybody
know the name and when the original version was released ?

Sounds like the Hindi remake of "Govinda Govinda" (in Tamil its
Kireetam). Very bad movie, a couple of decent songs, thats all.
But I think that RGV had to edit out most of the original footage.
I believe he's refused to make any movies in Telugu after that
or something. Can Dev fill in on the rest of the trivia ?
If I remember right, this was released in Jan 1994.

I think this sounds like the flop movie he made called Govinda Govinda in
1993 or so. I personally liked the movie a lot and also the songs were
great. But it touched a very delicate subject matter for a lot of "god
Sri venkateshwara (Tirupati)" fans which made it a big flop.

At your service.. :-)

I will be a little less harsh about the movie.. :-)

"Govinda Govinda" along with Ram Gopal Verma's classic "Kshanam Kshanam"
(dubbed as "Hairaan" in Hindi) is a must for all SriDevi fans. She
is mindblowing in these two movies, "Kshanm Kshanam" especially.

Too bad "Govinda Govinda" wasn't that great a movie. It's about
a Bangkok based gang stealing the crown of Lord Venkateswara of Tirupathi.
The last 45 minutes (which deals with recovering the crown) sucks..

But the movie is worth just for Sridevi.. :-) RGV, who professes
to be a great Sridevi fan, knows exactly what to do with Sridevi..
Put her in a well scripted role and watch the magic on the silver screen..

This is probably Raj-Koti's best work so far and like all RGV's movies
has very good music.. I don't know how it well survived the rape of dubbing..

Anyway I am off to the bay area this weekend to watch Sri in her latest
"DevaRagam" (also starring Arvind Swamy). The reports so far say she is
awesome in it..
[ Too bad the tamil movie screenings in LA seem to have stopped..]

About RGV, he vowed never to work in Telugu again, after
the censors edited the hell out of "Govinda Govinda"..
But fortunately he is back. His last movie, which he supposedly started
working on before his vow, "Anaganaga Oka Roju" (Dec 95) was a super hit
and he is now giving one more shot at horror with "Deyyam" ("Ghost")..

I wish he would make a movie in Hindi with Sridevi.. :-)
