Mukta Arts TRIMURTI * Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Shahrukh Khan,
Produced by Subhash Ghai Gautami, Anjali Jathar, Saeed Jaffrey,
Directed by Mukal S. Anand Priya Tendulkar & Dr. Mohan Agashe
Music by Laxmkant-Pyarelal

This was probably the most eagerly awaited film since 1942-
A LOVE STORY. It was the rare team-up of Subhash Ghai's entertaining story-
telling and Mukal Anand's technical brilliance. However, what could have
emerged as a great film turned out to be only a 'good' film. Sanjay Dutt's
arrest threw the planned shooting schedules into a mess. The film went
over-budget and some of the costly special-effects had to be left out. Another
major difficulty was co-ordinating the schedules of the three leading men to
shoot together. Thus, the climax could have used some more action.

Despite the set-backs, Mukal Anand has filmed a fairly good
entertainer. Subhash Ghai's story and Anees Bazmi's screenplay of three
brothers uniting together to fight injustice is nothing new but the inter-
play of the characters of the brothers was nicely handled. Jackie Shroff as
the stubborn older brother gives a fine performance as he changes gears from
being emotional to showing his toughness. Anil Kapoor as the wayward brother
who would rather create his own destiny is very good in a restrained
performance. Shahrukh Khan is also good displaying youthful exuberance in his
character. Other fine roles are portrayed by Mohan Agashe as the villain who
delights in playing with his prey until he goes for the kill, and Priya
Tendulkar who essays the role of the mother.

The production values are first-rate with excellent cinematography
by Ashok Mehta and a good background musical score by southern composer Koti.
Laxmikant-Pyarelal's music is their best for Subhash Ghai since HERO and the
songs are nicely picturized. 'E re sakhi' filmed along the waterfalls, 'mujhe
pyar karo' filmed with only the lighting from flashlights, are a treat to watch.
Saroj Khan's choreography is good in 'bol bhole bol' and 'very good very bad'
especially with Shahrukh who is emerging to be a fine dancer. It is too bad that
the film with big names associated with it couldn't turn out better.

Either you must be a mental case good review for Trimurti or Subhash Ghai
must have paid you handsomely for writing such reviews.

Ravi, buddy, ease up! These are the type of problems that occur
when you quote someone out of context! The person who wrote that review
goes on to say that Trimurti turned out to be a disappointment! Remember?

But even regarding the part that you did quote..... What's wrong
with that? He/she is absolutely right. Was Trimurti not a very
anticipated movie, since it was a team-up of Subhash Ghai and Mukul
Anand? And although the story was nothing special, was Trimurti not
praised for its great technical production? I mean, I'm talking
photography/cinematography/picturization of songs, etc. In fact, the
Cinema awards gave the cameraman of Trimurti the best camera man prize.
I'm not defending the movie here, 'cause aside from the great technical
production, there wasn't much to the movie. I'm just defending
everyone's right to not be quoted out of context and then cut up!

Although the film failed to live up to the high expectations due to
the set-backs during its production. It was still one of the better entertainers
with good production values, good music and a top star-cast. With about 90 Hindi
films released in 1995, it is harder to find ten films which were better
entertainers. This includes films such as KARAN ARJUN, BAAZI, RAJA, COOLIE No. 1
etc. If you read carefully, my review stated that what could have been an
amazing film ended up as being only a good film.
