Just wondering if anyone knows this movie or knows who acted in it...

Plot: It's sort of a Cinderella story... It's before 1947, the British rule
India. Story starts in an old Englishman's house in India. He is supposedly
someone with influence there probably of military rank or rich businessman.
A local Indian girl works at the house as a maid. She might be friends with
the Englishman's daughter. One day she is attacked by the Englishman. In the
struggle the old Englishman dies and the girl flees to England fearing that
she would be held responsible for his death. Or maybe she was being held
responsible for the old man's death and then she runs off to England. In
England she finds work in the movie/film business and eventually makes it
big. She also marries a producer or director or famous actor in England. The
man she marries dies and she inherits his fortune. Sometime later she has to
go back to India for a movie and she meets up with all her old acquaintances
and/or accusers...

Thanks,

The movie is Queenie (1987). It had Joss Ackland as the guy who was murdered
by the girl.
