It's a treat to ears and eyes. AR RAHMAAN is the MAN !
As you all know the music is excellent. songs blend
extremely well in the story.one after another. enjoy them.
Cinematography - kabir lal. choreography ghai regular
saroj khan and ghai new comer shimak davar.
Film begins with "kariye na" . Tara babu( alok nath)
sings the song on screen . a recording for aakashwani
Jullandhar. He lives in Chamba(HP) and has Tara babu
sangeet vidyalaya. has 3 daughters manasi( aishwarya rai),
ila and shanno. All very pretty :-)
A rich family(Mehtas) with a wicked aunt from England lands in Chamba.
typical snobish NRI aunt. u see them around a lot in US and UK(pardon)
The head of the family is amrish puri in a 'normal' role.
with a mother less son Akshay K - Manav - who's ma dies when he is 11.
It's pretty Chamba, handsome Akshay K and prettiest Aishwarya.
The love blossoms in the valley. Rain plays important part too.
It's present in all good songs! second song is title song
is picturised on Manasi, Ila and Shanno and rain. eye catching Himachal
in rains. aah ! Manav sees Manasi there. Amrish befriends Tara babu
by presenting A Sarswati idol.Gets his work done.
Manav and Manasi catch as much time together as they can.
At Mania's wedding , the fire is ignited fully with the sensuous
melody of 'Ishq beena kya'( anuradha sriram version). The first
of the many 'Coke' Sponsered scenes happens here.
Well it's time for Manav to leave. His Aunt discovers everything
and tells amrish too. Mean while love is exchanged via a red scarf
with "Manavsi" ( Manav jaisi manasi) stiched on it.
Another charged scene is when Manasi teaches Manav "yoga".
Tarababu finds out about the affair after Manav leaves.
Manasi explains him well. The phone scene between Manav and Ila
is good.Manav being the hero of the film handles things well
over phone and within few minutes of convincing chat with tara babu,
the phone is with Manasi.
Well story become usual rich vs poor. Tara babu and Manasi land
in Mumbai only to get insulted by Mehtas. Misunderstading is sowed
to take story in to next half. In Mumbai, tarababu and manasi stay
with Tara babu's cousin - Prabha( Mita Vashishtha - excellent) who
is a TV reporter.
Enter Kappu - alias vikrant kapur - the ramta jogi - Anil K.
Prabha makes Manasi think @ reality and make her take a offer
with Kappu's entertainment company as lead singer and actress.
. Here one fabulous song after another. The Jazzy version of title song.
Aasha's excellent ' kahi aag '. The friction between kappu and manav
moves thru some good scenes. Meanwhile Manav clears his own 'galat
fahmi'and starts working again on winning back Ash.
Ash meanwhile can't accept his love due to insult which she and tara
babu have gone thru. In one such moments is beautiful 'nahi saamne' by
hariharan. A male 'virah geet'. And since rain who
plays role of a friend or enemy depending on if lovers are
together or away from each other - it has to be there with Manav at
Marine Lines for this song .
Mean while Ash becomes big by winning MTV viewers choice award.
Manav Mehta is present to present the award. Ramta Jogi senses
the twist in the story and decides to have another drink at MTV party.
Aish, gets in one quarrel with kappu and later forgives him
too. Kappu meanhwile get full 'ehsaas' of his 'dil' and knows Manasi
has occupied his 'dil'. She calls him to say she is coming back
to his company. Aah! what a intoxicating situation. Kappu gets drunk
and starts 'Ramta Jogi' Ash joins him.we get to enjoy another rhythmic
song with sukhvinder batting on front foot with Alka Yagnik.
Ash becomes international star by winning MTV inernational's award
in toronto. Here she hears @ the news that Manav's house burns in fire
and he jumps in fore to save a scarf. She cries. Kappu knows and becomes
jeolous.ANother coke sponsered scene here too. Plans for his and Mansi's
wedding are all set too.Manasi decides to sing with 'dil' as per kappu's
suggestion and we hear the BEST SONG OF TAAL - Kavita K's 'ishq bina
kya' . aah ! ishq ! ishq !! Well remaining film is melodrama until hero
gets the heroine.
On the acting front absolutely nothing to complaint.Ash adds another
peacock feather after HDDCS !SHe has less dialogues and only few of then
hard. ghai has cleverly covered Aish's weakness( voice).Akshay K
has a excellent. His dialogue delivery is very good and get his puch and
timinng correctly. Anil K has out going personality which he plays with
at ease. He is THE ramta jogi. Subhash ghai ji .. what should i say. do
i say he need to have better story/screenplay next time? no , i don't
care. Till there is rahmaan in full form, kavita K at her peak,
aishwarya,akshay, anil, sukhvinder, hariharan and of course the
'harmony' ( chorus) girls with rahmaan's orchestra are there who cares
!
corporate sponsers : coke ( although we see pepsi, mirinda too), MTV,
kenstar, BPL, filmfare, manikchand gutkha etc etc

Question: I noticed that Marlboro figures prominently in the print ad for Taal;
I can only hope the cigarette giant broke off a few rupees for the privelege.
If not, the filmmaker is a SUCKA.

Bollywood movies . Amir smoked in Mann - some make with a
golden pack , same in Soldier and nearly every Bolly movie .
The censors should be wise to this and just cut all these
scenes out . Teens must not be encouraged to smoke by what
they see their heroes doing..
