Ha Ha Ha....the final whistle has blown...Koyla wins over Mrityudata
The fact that both the films were not good but Koyla won shows SRK's rising popularity.
Go SRK!!!What say, Rukhsters??? :)

Article taken from Latest Filmfare
---------------------------------

Koyla (Average)
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri
Dixit, Amrish Puri

Director: Rakesh Roshan

What's it about?:
A mute young man happens to be the slave of
the evil Raja Thakur. But eventually, the
mute is a mute no more and wreaks revenge
for all the atrocities done to him, to the
heroine, not to forget his parents.

Strengths:
High production values, a couple of catchy
songs and Shah Rukh Khan
Weaknesses:
A scratch-your-head story and an overdose of Amrish Puri's (non-)sex life.

Trade facts:
Rakesh Roshan created a new record by splitting the Mumbai territory --
selling the film for Rs 1.5 crores to
Mumbai city and the rest of the circuit for a whopping Rs 3 crores. Other
territories were sold at the high price of Rs
2.25 crores, plus print and publicity.

The collections were steady in Bihar, Nizam and Rajasthan. In the Delhi-UP
circuit, it's a commissioner. As for
Mumbai, trade experts aver that the high cost has led to a deficit.

Mrityudaata (Flop)

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple
Kapadia, Karisma Kapoor

Director: Mehul Kumar

What's it about?
Don't ask! Criminals and corrupt
politicians play rodents all over again, while
you-know-who plays the pest controller.

Strengths: ?

Weaknesses:
A convoluted plot, poor production values and ceaseless cliches.

Trade facts:
In some areas, the film was released on Tuesday. But the film lost its
initial... fast. The crowds reacted negatively.
One Thane distributor reportedly went bankrupt, since his previous two films,
Uff Yeh Mohabat and Lahu Ke Do
Rang, had crashed as well.

That would only show that SRK's popularity raising vis-a-vis
Amitabh (I would rather wait for a couple of more films to be
released before jumping to conclusions). Anyway from his
popularity in Ram Jane and Chahat, it can only go up

By the way since Sunny's Ziddi is the only hit recently shows that
Sunny's popularity has shot up :) :).

This logic would lead us to conclude that Sunny Deol and Govinda are
more popular than BOTH Amitabh and SRK. I mean, Govinda has had a string
of one success after another; and Sunny D is giving us plenty of action
(with the Vitamin C and Calcium). Go figure ...

didn't I say give Koyla a chance ... all of you jumping to conclusions
just because of your personal anxe against SRK ... now ... can we all
agree taht it has done well because of the cast and the plot and
everything else ... and yes, SRK did do a good job!!!!!! Finally some
recognition for SRK ... no matter what you all say about the movie ... the
majority rules ...

What distorted logic, Sridhar.. does this mean that every movie which
has been a bigger hit
in the recent times, than Mrityudata, proves its hero is better in
popularity.. and therefore every movie which has done better business
than Koyla has put up an actor more popular than Shah Rukh.. right??!!!

Not so.SRK was more popular than many actors like Sunny and Govinda
before his films started flopping starting from Trimurti. What i wanted
to convey is the "Initial" he drwas fro all movies(Chaahat,EBDM etc)
prevents the movie from being an utter flop. The fact that KOYLA didn't do
good in the 2nd week but still is a average hit shows the tremendous
initial it got, no doubt because of SRK.So he is drawing an initial
even after 3/4 flops shows his popularity. And i meant rising popularity
with Amitabh as a reference point. The fact that Mrityudaata didn't get even
a decent initial confirms it.
