Noted actor Murad dead

MUMBAI, April 26 (UNI) Noted character
actor of yesteryears Murad died here on
Thursday. He was 86. He is survived by his
wife, three daughters and son Raza Murad,
a popular screen villain.

Born in 1911, the green-eyed and fair
complexioned Hamid Ali Murad started his
career in 1942 with "Najma" produced by
late Mehboob, which was followed by
"Anmol Ghadi", "Andaz", "Deedar", "Aan",
"Do Beegha Zamin". and "Devdas".

In ''Mughal-E-Azam, " he played Man
Singh, brother of Jodhabai, Emperor
Akbar's queen. In "Taj Mahal, " he played
the role of Mahabat Khan.

Son Raza Murad told UNI that his father
was so fair complexioned that in the
pre-independence era British officers saluted
him thinking that he was one of them Murad
also held the post of president of the Senior
Artists Association during 1976-77.
