hi,

Can any of u folks point me to Gripping, well-made MurderMystery
Indian Movies ( all language movies, not just Hindi). This genre
of movies hardly seems to exist in Bollywood (or far that matter in
regional language movies too) , except for the odd Ramsay Crap. (like 2001
recently).

I will spell out a few , which I remember:

* Khamosh - This is the best Indian Murder Mystery movie, i have seen.
Directed by VidhuVinod, released sometime in 86. No songs.
No masala, big stars etc. Brilliant. It was a decent Hit.

* 100 days - Well made movie. (remake of a tamil movie).

* Khiladi - OK. Kept the suspense on till the end.

* Gumnaam - OK. Adapted from the AgathaChristie's TenLittleNiggers.
I liked the book better.

*WOh kaun thi - Good. Not a murder mystery, but it was a Suspense movie.

* Gupt - OK. ( a Masala Suspense movie).

I have seen a fair number of Telugu Suspense thrillers too. Cannot
recall their names. Can any of u telugu movie fans come with up
the names. (even the ol' ones featuring Rajnala, Mukkamala. ANR etc)

One featured BhanuPriya and Karthik, where Girls get Raped/murdered.
Had OUtstanding Music/songs by IlayaRaja. (released sometime in 85).
Name please....

Tamil ones: Again stranded for names. There was one featuring
SivajiGanesan and Saroja, where Sivaji Bumps of his wife accidentally
etc.. I guess, it was remade in Hindi with DilipKumar.

Kannada: Shhhh...Gupchup.. Was this a murder mystery?? I missed it.

Hope to see a good list of movies of this genre from u knowledgable folks.

cheers
raj

I seem to remember another Tamil movie from around the same time as
Pudiya Parivai was "Adhey Kanngal". Not a complete mystery film, more
comedy, but if you like Nagesh's comedy it's definitely worth a
look-see.

There's also a good Hindi movie made in the 1960s with Rajesh Khanna. I
think it was called "Ittefaq". I reckon it's worth watching. Dunno if
it's a copy of another movie, though.

Hope this helps!
Shilpa

P.S. Thanks for starting this thread! I love mystery movies and I just
learnt the names of some more I can watch :)

Another Bollywood suspense thriller well worth your while is
DHUND *ing Danny and Zeenat Aman. I had watched it as a kid and again
a few years ago and it was still as gripping. Check it out if you
haven't seen it.

One suspense movie which I was fortunate enough to see (
in high school), was a telugu movie (dubbed from Kannada, actually),
"Aparichitulu" ("Strangers") *ing Sobha. IIRC it was directed by
Kasinath, who later become more famous for his racy double-entendre
laced movies.

But "Aparichitulu" had me mesmerised for years..
I don't remember much of the plot (except that it was supposed
to be based on some true incident)--It was about a series of bizarre
incidents revolving around Sobha (national award winner for
the Tamil movie "Pasi")...

I wish I will get a chance to see it again.

Does anyone know the Kannada name of this movie?

I had seen a Tamil movie which has Karthik and Ambika in it.
This was a very good murder mystery which Ambika being a doctor
shelters Karthik who, infact, is waiting to kill her if he gets out
of amnesia. I don't remember the name of this movie which was also
remade in Hindi with Madhuri and that boss guy in Yes Boss.
The Hindi one was horrible compared to the Tamil version and also
had a happy ending. The Tamil one was quite gripping till the end.

This is true of almost all Bollywood movies . They have a
tremendous repeat value . Comedies especially improve with
repeat watching.

i BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN raised umpteen times. IF YOU ARE REVEALING
THE KILLER'S NAME ADD SPOILER OR something to that effect to your title.
Better still don't reveal anything. There are always going to be many
people who haven't seen the movie or want to see it a second time without
knowing the killer (now I cannot watch Dhundh:-().

Thanks,
Srini

While i agree with Mr. Srini, you have no business to label others as shit
when you are speaking to a third person.

You are talking as if your activities in the newsgroups have been a
masterpiece !

I believe there was an old film called KANOON from the late 50s/early 60s
that was a really good suspense movie, mostly based in the courtroom. It
starred Ashok Kumar.

"BUDDHA MIL GAYAA" - AWESOME MUSIC BY RDB - WAS A PRETTY GOOD MURDER MYSTERY.
STARRED NAVIN NISCHOL & A NEW GIRL WHOSE NAME I FORGET. IT ALSO STARRED THE
LATE GREAT OM PRAKASH. HAD THAT RECURRING SONG "AAYO KAHAN SE GHANSHAM..."
SUNG BY MANADE.

ALSO, "DHARMA" STARRING THE WONDERFUL PRAN WAS A WELL-MADE SUSPENSE THRILLER.
HAD THAT EXCELLENT QAWALI "RAAZ KI BAAT KAH DOON TO..." BY RAFI & ASHA. MD
WAS SONIK OMI (?).
