Film producer "Venus" Govindarajan passed away in
Madras the other day. He was 85. A detailed report
from the Hindu is reproduced below :

CHENNAI: Film producer Venus Govindarajan, the man behind
classic movies in several Indian languages including the Tamil box
office hits `Uthama Puthiran' and `Kalyana Parisu' died here on
Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 85.

Venus Govindarajan and his partners were involved in the production of
over 50 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Bengali.

Some of his best known Tamil movies are `En Annan,' a blockbuster
starring M.G. Ramachandran; a comedy `Pattanathil Bootham,' which shot
Jai Shankar and K.R. Vijaya into the limelight, and `Kalyana Parisu'
with Gemini Ganesan and Saroja Devi in the lead.

In Hindi, Govindarajan's films included `Nazraana' featuring Raj Kapoor
and `Saathi' with Rajendra Kumar in the lead. His close associate in
Bollywood was Guru Dutt.

In Telugu, his best known movie is `Manchi Vadu' featuring A. Nageswara Rao.

Venus Pictures produced director Mani Ratnam's first film `Pallavi Anu
Pallavi' in Kannada.

Govindarajan married popular comedienne T.A. Maduram's sister T.A.
Pattammal, who died a few years ago. He is survived by two sons,
producer Sathya Jothi T.G. Thyagarajan and T.T.G. Thyagasaravanan.

Another popular hindi film produced by his film company, probably,
was "Suraj". Its music was very popular in those days. It also
marked the return of old-time leading man Ajit as a villain.

Very nice of you Afsal Saab, to have highlighted the man whom most in
the industry itself could have forgotten, where one is measured by
what he is today. All the films referred to were land marks in their
own way- either made or resurrected stars.
