What is Dum if not a rehash of Ghaath, a manoj bajpai movie, which was done
in a much better/authentic way. Dum actually tended to copy almost
everything which Ghaath had. The only place where it digresses was Ghaath
tried to be a bit more realistic, with the death of Manoj Bajpai (though I
would have to say that the last scene, the death of Mamu, Irfan Khan, was
quite dramatic). Dum had almost everything Ghaath had. Infact, some of the
dialogues of "Godbole", Ghaath's corrupt Inspector were the same as that of
Encounter Shankar ( Dum's inspector ). Kind of took away the fun of watching
a movie. The stealing of revolver was lifted directly from Ghaath.

Vivek Oberoi was good as far as action and anger was concerned, but seemed
out place in the romantic scenes. I haven't seen Saathiya, but this in this
movie, he definitely seemed awkward in those scenes. As far as his dancing
abilities are concerned, he has a good flexibility. But doesn't dance too
well. "Jeena" wasn't too impressive.

Overall, the movie would seem interesting to someone who hasn't seen Ghaath.
Diya Mirza, there is something not right about that girl. She is good
looking no doubt, but she has a rather awkward dialogue delivery. When I saw
"Tumko na Bhool Paayenge" I thought it was a part of the character ( she
played a village belle ), but, when she repeated the act, she was definitely
out of place. Atul Kulkarni was good, and would get many more opportunities
in the future. This guy, who played Vivek friend, seemed familiar ( I think
he was in one of the Bhagat Singh's, probably played Sukhdev ), was ok,
except for his last scene, where he was a bit dramatic. We would see more of
him in the future. The script, copied, the direction, ok. Mukesh Rishi, very
good.

Ghaath was a bit too preachy and preachy in an irriating manner.
Especially the portions between Bajpai and Om Puri & Tinnu Anand and
Bajpai's dad (Alok Nath?) were very irritating. Dum wasnt preachy, but
made up for the irritation by repeated references to the term Dum and
the Hanuman bit.

Ghaath was idealistic. Hence just a bit preachy, definitely not in an
irritatingly manner. Infact, Manoj Bajpai and Om Puri seemed a lot more
genuine that Vivek Oberoi at any point. Dum is a lot more commercial than
Ghaath was, hence, it tries all those tricks of the trade that an art movie
would miss out on.

Vivek Oberoi is fast going the Hrithik lane. He was
needlessly hyped after a sidey role in Company and
has delivered three flops in quick succession in
Road,Saathiya and Dum where he played the solo lead.
Form is temporary class is permanant!

Ghaath. Of course! I was racking my brains to remember the name of
this film...

I thought Jeena wasn't acually about the dancing as much as the duo
generally cutting loose in abandon, i.e. formal steps didn't seem to
be the point here. I actually enjoyed this picturisation.

Classic case of Bollywood streotyping. After that fiery Sukhdev
performance. it was only a matter of time before he got stuck playing
more best friend roles. Unless someone like RGV (Jungle) comes
along... a pity!

After watching this movie,I am convinced that E.Nivas should
concentrate on making music videos not movies. The picturisation of the
title track and Babuji Dheere Chalo and Jeena were very good.

The songs were catchy, that's what they were, foot tapping. The
picturization was good, yet I thought Oberoi lacked that flair for dancing.
he definitely has the flexibility, but not the steps and spontaneity
