Actually, there was nothing new in what she did, since it was done by
Juhi in 1 2 ka 4. Sadly, Filmfare awards are not indicative of good
quality. The fact that Jaya was nominated for best supportin actress
and actually won, proves it to the hilt.
Saif for best actor in a comic role, COMIC role???????? Give me a
break..
Cheers
Arun
Tabu in Chandni Bar would've been totally deserving. It is most
unfortunate to see a stupid and irritating performance like Kajol's in
K3G getting an award in comparison to one like Tabu's. hope she gets the
National award.

Why, I thought it was very funny. His timing and sense of humor in the
role was very good. Otherwise, comedy is restricted to Govinda or
Johnny Lever types in Hindi films.
But K3G/Johar not getting any award was most redeeming feature of
Filmfare awards this year.
The circus that was happening there at the awards ceromany was another
story. For once I agree with Gazab. Why did they have to speak in
accented English? Archana Puran Singh I think was reliving her role in
'Censor' of an American!!!! :-)
Gulzar sounded so cultured in his speech. In direct constrast to the
rest. A Hema Malini speaking in English is understood but why Asha
Parekh, why Amitabh? And the costumes most of these filmstars wore
reaffirmed my theory on the whole thing being nothing more than a
three ringed circus. Akshaya Kumar lead the pack of clowns in his
funny crinkled silk trousers and equally amazing shirt. Seems elegance
is as outdated as hindi in the film world!

With Lagaan being nominated for the oscars I don't think they had a
choice. After all a facade of creditability has to be maintained. And
even 3 awards for that film were a very high figure. I think Karan
Johar got an award for his moronic dialogues in the film. Bad enough.
And then Jaya Bhadhuri getting the best supporting actress and Kajol
the best actress. I like Kajol and she was the only watchable thing in
that film but there were definitely better performances than hers. I
think filmfare awards has more paid it's service to that camp.

Well, my point was the Saif should've been nominated for "Best
Supporting Actor" along with Akshaye. The character 'Samir' was full
of wit, but it was *not* imho, a comic role. Unless, the meaning of
the word 'comic' has changed :-). I think Saif must've been a bit
upset by the nomination. Farah Khan seemed to suggest so during her
speech. Amitabh was nominated for the same role, "Aks" in two
different categories :-)
Johnny Lever wasn't even nominated for "Love ke liye.."'s 'Aslam Bhai'
which was a *comic role* par excellence.

Agreed, though to be fair to amma Malini and Mr. B, they didn't have
stupid accents. They were natural, even polished.

Funny you noticed that too. The moment Akshay came on the screen,
people in my apt said, "What kid of shirt is that?" :-)
Kajol seems to be a TOI favorite. She must be getting an award for
simply showing up :-)
Cheers

I felt his speech to Twinkle was a tad OTT, I mean it's not as if he had won
the best actor award, is it?
tumne meri mooh ki baat cheen li

As loud and uninspired an actor as I find him, I was surprised that
Sunny Deol did not win the popular award given the mammoth popularity
of "Gadar". A pleasant suprise, for sure.
One thing that confounds me is Kajol winning the Best Actress award.
She is a knock-out talent, no doubt there, but her perforamnce in KKKG
was no where near what other actresses put forth this year, especially
Tabu (Chandni Bar), Karishma Kapoor (Zuebidaa) and Nandita Das
(Bawandar). I found Kareena Kapoor's period action heroine of Asoka
more inspired and complex than KKKG's Anjali, which was a near carbon
copy of Juhi Chawla's infinitely superior performance in "One Two Ka
Four". Oh well, I suppose.
Agreed that Saif should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor;
Juhi Chawla deserved the Best Comic Performance for her sparkling turn
in One Two Ka Four.
Jaya Bachchan in KKKG was an absolute dolt and should never have been
nominated. If anyone deserved the award, it was Rekha, who nearly
outshone everyone and everything in Shyam Benegal's "Zubeidaa".
The biggest joke of all, however, has to be Akshay Kumar walking away
with the Best Villain award. It's a stupid category to begin with,
but to pretend that Kumar's "I-wanna-act!" semi-villainous act in
Ajnabee comes anywhere near what Manoj Najpai (Aks) and Urmila
Matondkar (PTKK) achieved is a sad perversion of the truth. Manoj was
absolutely stellar in that role, and Matondkar (who quite arguably
deserved the Best Actress trophy) was plain phenomenal. Her
performance in PTKK was the most multi-faceted, complex, and plain
best anti-heroine act since Sridevi's Satanic Bitch from Hell in
"Laadla" nearly six years ago.
