Porn Legend Chuck Traynor Dies of a Heart Attack
CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Chuck Traynor, who managed the careers of both
Linda Lovelace and Marilyn Chambers, died of a heart attack last
night. His passing was exactly three months to the day of the death
of Lovelace, the woman with whose name he will always be associated.
Traynor is survived by his wife of twenty years, Bo, and by his
brother. A private funeral service will be held at an undisclosed
location in Florida on Saturday, after which Traynor's ashes will be
interned next to his mother's in Miami.
Chambers, who was married to Traynor for ten years during which time
he also served as her manager, told AVN.com that his sudden death "was
exactly how he'd want to go. Quickly - at least it wasn't a prolonged
illness." Chambers had remained close with Traynor after their
divorce, having talked to him as recently as Friday. According to
Chambers, at that time he gave no indication of any health problems.
"He sounded great, " Chambers said.
Before entering the adult industry, Traynor served in the Marine Corps
during Vietnam, after which he worked for a while as a crop duster.
Traynor was the owner of a topless bar in Florida when Linda Lovelace
came in looking for work. Traynor taught Lovelace how to "deep
throat" - and introduced her to the Perainos, who cast her in the
groundbreaking adult film, Deep Throat. Under Traynor's guidance,
Lovelace would go on to make a small number of unsuccessful movies,
but she nonetheless continues to be widely regarded as the first "porn
star". Later Lovelace accused Traynor of exploiting her in her book
Ordeal.
"He was hurt [by Ordeal]. A lot of stuff in that book just wasn't
true," insisted Chambers.
Shortly after Lovelace and Traynor separated, Chambers called Traynor
after noting his success handling Lovelace's career. She arranged a
meeting and immediately left everything to stay with him. For the
next ten years, Traynor provided hands-on guidance for Chambers'
career, even taking the time to design and sew some of her costumes.
Chambers describes Traynor as a Svengali of sex. "He taught me a lot
about this business. He taught me a lot about sex and he taught me a
lot about being in the public eye. The most important thing he taught
me was to always give people what they don't expect."
When asked how she felt Traynor would like to be remembered Chambers
quipped, "He'd like to be remembered as the guy who was NOT the guy
portrayed in Linda's book."
He is fondly remembered by members of the adult industry. "He's been
a legend since the birth of the explicit business," said AVN hall of
famer Henri Pachard.

Then again, if he was the abusive husband that Linda Lovelace claimed,
I'd imagine he's in Hell at the moment, getting smacked around by
demons and throat-raped by golems as Satan readies him to be mounted
by thorn-cocked Bulbous the Unmentionable, the most endowed of the
hounds of Hades, on a pay-per-view...as abusers deserve, IMHO.
Versus what? A woman who lives upon the earnings of men who are working?
