Hi...

As you all know, Marky Mark (aka Mark Wahlberg) is playing a well-endowed
porn star in the forthcoming film BOOGIE NIGHTS, a film set in the 1970s
that focused on the rise and fall of a porn star during the industry's peak.
It is, of course, loosely based on the life of John Holmes.

The movie's release is set for May 23 by New Line Cinema.

Items:

1) New Line held a preview for a test audience of die-hard Marky Mark fans
(yes, mostly gay men; interestingly, a New Line recruiter stood outside a
West hollywood gay gym asking guys "Do you want to see Marky Mark naked?").
The audience hated the film, and most studio execs left the theater LONG
before the film ended. Word is that MM turns in a decent performance, as
does Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds, and William H. Macy ("Fargo").

2) The film contains highly graphic sex scenes, including several with MM.
MM is seen nude towards the end, but the "goodies" are not his, reports the
Boston paper "In Newsweekly." By all accounts, there will be an additional
13 inches on the cutting room floor by the time the movie is released. :)

3) Word also is that an amazingly funny running gag involving Macy is also
due to be cut, sadly. And there is a lot of comedy relying on '70s disco
culture, including a "low-rent" disco number based on "Saturday Night Fever."

See ya...

Isn't Marky Mark, some little squirt, in stature? Who would cast him as a
"believable" porn actor, in the mold of John Holmes...

Hollywood,,,,jeeezzzzzzzzzzz !

I would say John was 6 feet or more (vertical, not horizonal...<g>)

"Boogie Nights" is NOT "the John Holmes movie," and Mark is NOT
playing John Holmes in it. This is one of those "facts" made up by
some Net-wit to prove that he knows more than the next guy, and
everyone on Internet has picked it up and run with it ever since. One
of the biggest problems with information dissemination on the Net is
that one man's lie is the next man's rumor and everyone else's truth!

And you come by this information how?

In the column I read in "In Newsweekly," it was stated explicitly that
this movie is based on Holmes' life and the het porn industry in the
1970s. It's a loose fit, I know...but then, who wants to talk about
injecting drug use and brushes with the Manson gang?

See ya...

You might be thinking of a Rolling Stone article shortly after he
died. It came out in '89 and had Paul McCartney on the cover, but I
don't remember the exact date.

I'm writing from Australia and we're presently in development for a
feature film set within the porn industry. Three months ago I hear this
story about Marky Mark and start to worry. I'm now waiting to see if
this film deals with the same sorts of issues that we do.

Anyone know what the plot of 'Boogie Nights' is, or how to get a copy of
their script, coz I don't think the film's gonna arrive in this country
for quite a while.

Cheers,

Glenn
