Slow night ...so, I'm commenting on THE PROPOSAL, mostly as an
exercise in opinionating. It's a by-the-numbers Hollywood comedy
that's only for viewers who recognize that those can have their
pluses. In this instance, the pluses are Sandra Bullock and Ryan
Reynolds demonstrating their considerable skill at reaction-
comedy ...which, thanks to some snappy writing, carries the movie's
first half. Unfortunately, Betty White and Mary Steenburgen are
sorely under-utilized (...as is Craig T. Nelson, but he's always hit
or miss). The movie's second half isn't so good ...nor -- and this is
a minus -- is it even bad THE PROPOSAL is marginally recommended.

The movie had a few funny scenes, some good dialog and Sandra Bullock did
a nice job. I agree that the ending was rushed and could have been much
better.
