This certainly has worrying implications for anyone who has hopes for
the Justice League will be faithful to the source material in any way.

Writer James Robinson has revealed that after he made the "New 52"
version of the current Green Lantern gay, Warner Bros. was worried that
this would affect their movie Green Lantern franchise.

As you may recall or be aware of, Robinson chose to make the rebooted
version of Alan Scott, the current person wearing the Lantern ring to
protect Earth 2, gay when DC Comics rebooted their core continuity.

Robinson told Comic Book Resources that while DC was supportive of the
decision, Warner Bros. had some concerns about whether their potential
film franchise --specifically, Ryan Reynolds' character of Hal Jordan--
would have to or should be revealed as gay himself.

Said Robinson, "Geoff (Johns) had to go in and explain that there were lots
of Green Lanterns, and this was just one of them."

There have been rumors that Reynolds may or may not reprise the role in
Justice League, which has a tentative release date of 2015 but may be
pushed out due to the script being started fresh due to problems with
Will Beall's initial take.

Anyone who is familiar with the source material knows that the Justice
League as most people are familiar with it today is comprised of the
CURRENT (i.e. "Earth 1") versions of the heroes in question, including
the straight Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, while earlier versions from the
'40s and '50s, which has been retconned to be an alternate version of
Earth, or "Earth 2", make up what is known as the Justice Society.
Therefore any concerns that GL might try to slip the Flash the pickle
and get frustrated because he won't hold still long enough are moot.

Will the Flash become a queer too and be renamed, "The Flit?"

It's a non-issue anyway. If it's a superhero team-up movie, there
won't be time for enough character development for the different team
members establishing sexual orientation. Unless the JLA hit a strip
club or something and they can have a shot of Batman and co. really
getting into it, while the Green Lantern sits there looking
uncomfortable.

Or, "Pink Lantern."

Trust me, one scene of fake coitus between the Lantern and a male
friend and that franchise would be DEAD as a doornail. Maybe even
more dead than after the last movie.

Sounds like you're pretty familiar with gay terminology, not that
there's anything wrong with that . . .

Yawn.

Alan Scott's outfit *was* a bit flamboyant. Maybe it just tells us
something about 1940s comic book artists. Didn't we already have a
discussion about why superheroes need capes?

BTW, did anybody catch the reference in "Steam Lantern?"

It may just mean that he has read The Catcher in the Rye,
the only place I've ever seen the word 'flit' used.

It was a fairly common euphemism for homosexuals at one point. I have
seen it several old books. Never read CITR so I didn't know it was in
there.

'Catcher' is a must read in my opinion, though no doubt
the young in its era were the most affected by it. When I
first read it a half century ago, it was (and is) the only
book that when I finished the last page I went right back
to page 1 and read it again.

I'll bet Ayn Rand didn't like it.
