What is the most realistic sex scene in a film? One where it looks like the
actors were most definitely NOT acting. I'd have to say the opening scene in
the french film, 'Betty Blue' has got to be one of the most realistic nooky
scenes I've ever seen.

There are some very convincing scenes in "Face Jam" and "Backdoor Babes
- Vol. 2".

Shampoo. It's not very long (probably less than a second, if I remember
right -- and we're talkin at least 20 years ago) but it's *very* realistic.

How about "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" with the scene
with Jennifer Jason Leigh?

If you mean "gosh, it looks like they're actually humping", I've
got no particular nominations, but if you mean "that's more like
real life sex than 'movie sex'", I'll have to mention the sex
scenes in "The Big Easy" (no, the title doesn't mean what you
think it means :-).

It's their first time together; things are a little awkward,
and she's a little nervous. She talks too much, until he
does something with his hand that you can't see on screen
and then she gets an "oh god" look on her face. "Stop that",
she says unconvincingly, and he says, "Stop what? This?....
Or this?..." And she moans. Just as she seems to be over
her hesitation and they start groping each other, their
beepers go off, and they have to stop and go to work,
frustrated as hell. They're fully clothed through the
entire scene, and it's still sexy as hell. In fact, the
sexual chemistry through the entire film is amazing, and
very easy to identify with, because it's much more
"real" than the typical movie "volcano lust" depictions of
sexual attraction.

Damned good music soundtrack, too.

Don't Look Now with Donald Sutherland. It was hard to film but
it's wonderfully erotic and beautiful.

As has been mentioned so far, Don't Look Now and The Sailor Who Fell From Grace
With The Sea, both have seens in them that are realistic. The reason for this is
that it is widely reported that in both scenes, the actors(Donald Sutherland and
Julie Christie for Don't Look Now and Kris Kristofferson and Sarah Miles for
"Sailor") lost control and just started really having sex.

My nominee would be the scene between Victoria Abril and Antonio Banderas in

(involving Jennifer Jason Leigh and Robert Romanus) in FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT

A really quick, strangely erotic scene between Adam Horovitz (yes, the
Beastie Boy) and Amy Locane (yum) in LOST ANGELS comes to mind... and
wasn't the sex scene between real-life husband and wife Alec Baldwin and
Kim Basinger in THE GETAWAY supposed to have been a recording of actual
coitus? That's what I heard, anyway. Plus, any one of the many sex scenes
in the movie WHORE.

The opening scene of BETTY BLUE (French picture from the late 80's
starring Beatrice Dalle and Jean-Hughes Anglade). If those actors were
not really boning, I have no idea how they managed. At the very least,
they got well acquainted with each other's genitalia. If you see it, you
will understand what I'm talking about. No cups in evidence. And it's a
long single take...

There's also another scene in the movie where J-H Anglade strips Beatrice
Dalle's clothes off and goes down on her and you KNOW there is some oral
contact with Ms. Dalle's gentalia. Great scene!

The most realistic sex scene is for sure in The Mailman. Kevin Costner
has passionate sex with a lot of furniture for hours at a time. Its not
harcore or rough, Kevin treats his lovers with respect. Especially the
dresser and the desk. The camera never cuts away either so he is really
having fun!

You should see Paul Verhoeven's early film SPETTERS. Along with DEVIL IN
THE FLESH (with the perenially naked Dutch actress Maruschka Detmers),
it's almost definitely beyond softcore. In both films, there is
definitely more male nudity than female.

The fellatio scene in "Devil in the flesh" - in the version shown here in
european cinemas - "is" a real hardcore scene. Nothing is faked and you see
everything. But that x-version was, as I know, never shown on Video or TV.

As this film has been showed at the Berlin Film Festival (76 or 77), the
justice has taken the copy because it has pornographic scenes. Now it is a
work of "pornographic art".

The question is: Is a pornographic sex scene more sexy or realistic than an
R-rated scene like these in "Don't look now"? A normal harcore movie is so
stupid that you can say, any good photographed, deeply emotional, well
played R-rated scene is sexier than a porn movie. This is the reason, why I
would say: The scene with Christie and Sutherland is the best and most
impressing sex scene I know.

Wrong, I've seen this movie (un-cut) on a french channel (M6) some
years ago. Indeed, the scene was very short (she gave the guy just one
or two 'blows' and was supposed to be drunk (really was ? )).

Of course, it was aired late at night ;-)

The same is true of the fellatio scene (and every other sex
scene, for that matter) in Nagisa Oshima's IN THE REALM OF THE
SENSES.

Well, 21 years have passed since your post and we now have quite a few other examples. The scenes in Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac are "supposed" to be all CGI and composition mixing actors faces and stunt doubles genitalia. It's hard to believe but if it was not real at least it certainly looked so. When it comes to more suggestive non-pornografic scenes, I'd go with the one between Sasha Lane and the very boring Shia LaBeouf in American Honey.
