Well, the twins seemed to have had only one life. If you
kill an agent though, he'll just hop into the nearest
available body. So the agents win.

I would think the rogue programs would be pretty effective against
Agents, which is probably why the Merovingian keeps them around. They
probably can not be "possessed" and would be immune to their weapons.
The twins have no names, other than Twin 1 and Twin 2.
As for why the Merovingian keeps them around, he says it himself in
Reloaded: "They are notoriously hard to kill."
