Lets just deal with the first two scenes. Guy in italy comes home from war with big plans about building a tractor to sell. His father, a farmer thinks he's a fool for dreaming such things. How often have we seen this kind of back-story?
Second they show him and his friend entering a race and losing through incompetence. The race looked like it was done at tricycle speed.
But interspersed in this is a "future scene" of the guy as an older man, using a Lamborghini Countach to race a Ferrari Mondial. The Mondial was a SLUG. the Countach, arguably the first supercar, would have wiped the floor with the Ferrari.
Anyway, despite his loss in his first race, daddy does a 180 and mortgages his farm to fund the guy!!
