Some names to try...
Ashley Judd
Jean Stapleton
Jackie Gleason
Stockard Channing
Reba Macintire (TV movie)

1. Jean Stapleton was in "Michael" with John Travolta
2. John Travolta was in "Broken Arrow" Christian Slater
3. Christian Slater was in "Murder in the First" with Kevin Bacon
You could go the same route (3 steps) with Stockard Channing who was in Grease
with John Travolta, but to make it more interesting,
1. Stockard starred (ironically) in a movie called "Six Degrees of Separation"
with Anthony Rapp
2. Anthony was in the original broadway production of "Rent" with Daphne
Rubin-Vega
3. Daphne was "Wild Things" with Kevin Bacon
Ashley Judd was in "Where the Heart is" with Stockard Channing (4 steps), but a
faster route is:
1. Ashley was in "Double Jeopardy" with Tommy Lee Jones
2. Tommy Lee was in "JFK" with Kevin Bacon
1. Jackie Gleason was in "Nothing in Common" with Tom Hanks
2. Tom Hanks was in "Apollo 13" with Kevin Bacon
1. Reba McEntire was in "One Night at McCools" with Matt Dillon who starred in
2. "Wild Things" with Mr. Bacon
How about some others?
John Wayne
Greta Garbo
Stephanie Zimbalist
Katie Couric (appearances on Cheers and Murphy Brown)
Savion Glover (tap dancer)
Ed Marinaro
Lassie
Bill Bixby
Jill Goodacre
Frank Gifford
Bud Cort
Donna
My opinions might have changed, but not the fact that I am right.
Just to bring it to its logical conclusion:
Adolf Hitler (yes, him) has a Bacon number of 4, not counting archive
footage (if you count archive footage it's bound to be lower; archive
footage of Hitler appears in about a million movies).
He was in "Olympia 1. Teil - Fest der Völker" with
Leni Riefenstahl who was in "Jeux de la XXIeme Olympiade" with
Bruce Jenner who was in "The Big Tease" with
Kylie Bax who was in "We Married Margo" with
Kevin Bacon.
So there.

It's appropriate, but it's sooooo five years ago.
Reba's one degree. She's in Tremors with Kevin Bacon
Jean Stapleton's two degrees. She's in Klute with Donald Sutherland,
who's in JFK with Kevin Bacon
Likewise Stockard Channing, who's in Six Degrees of Separation with
Donald Sutherland, who's in JFK with Kevin Bacon.
Ashley Judd's a two -- In Double Jeopardy with Tommy Lee Jones, who's
in JFK with Kevin Bacon.
Jackie Gleason.... hmmmm.... in Nothing In Common with Hector
Elizondo, who's in Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts, who's in
Flatliners with Kevin Bacon.
You want a challenge, try Eva Peron.
John Harkness
Exactly what did Kevin Bacon do to be worthy of all this hubbub?

The fact that you were able to connect Kevin Bacon to Hitler using Klie Bax
is truly, uh,. . . .I don't know what. But it is truly something.
Although talking Kevin Bacon and his degrees is like going back into time 6
years ago.
John
Well, I didn't have to do it myself, there's a web page with a cute
little program on it that automatically connects actors to Kevin
Bacon. Uses IMDb data, I think. The only thing I did manually was
the connection to Hitler via Riefenstahl (because the automatic
linking also accepts actors credited for "archive footage", of
which there is a lot featuring Hitler; I had to handpick a film
where he appeared on purpose).

I'll have to try that, since I've met pretty much all the actors from
Babylon 5 I bet I'm within 6 degrees, what's the url?
Dave
That's the point
> You want a challenge, try Eva Peron.
Eva Peron to Fernando Rey in La Prodiga.
Fernando Rey to Kevin Dunn in 1492
Dunn to Bacon in Stir of Echoes.
I see your Eva Peron, and raise you Bill Wyman.
> John Wayne
Easy for fans of John Wayne. Wayne was with Robert Wagner in The Longest
Day, Wager was in Wild Things.
> Greta Garbo
Oooh...good one. No idea.
> Stephanie Zimbalist
She was in The Awakining with Miriam Margolyes, who was in Balto.

Do teevee appearences count for the game? She was in New York City with
DeNiro, and DeNiro was in Sleepers with Bacon.

The Wall, with Michael DeLorenzo, who was in A Few Good Men

In Queens Logic, with Bacon

Dunno.

Million Dollar Hotel, with Amanda Plummer, who was in Elizabeth Jane.
Nick Cave? Roger Ebert?

To Julian Rivero via Rio Rita, thence to Robert Wagner via Broken Lance,
thence to Wild Things and Kevin Bacon.
If you go to google and type in "Kevin Bacon" it should actually
be the very first item on the search list.
Mind you, this specific linking game only uses "appeared in the
same film together" as a valid relation, just meeting someone
doesn't count. That would be a different linking game altogther,
and one that's too bloody easy considering that almost everyone at
least knows someone who's met some famous politician and *those*
guys meet with each other all the time, and there you have it.
For instance, I'm just your average Norwegian nerd. An English
teacher I had in high school once met Ronald and Nancy Reagan,
so I'm only two steps from Ronnie and three steps from everyone
he ever met (consider how many famous people *that* amounts
to). Through a couple of other paths I'm four "met someone once"
steps from Lenin and the rest of the early Soviet leadership on
one hand, and Winston Churchill on the other. In fact I'm also
at most four steps from Osama bin Laden, and that isn't even funny.
Hmmm, Bill Wyman's in Eat The Rich, I think that's his only acting
appearance, which gives us Robbie Coltrane
Coltrane's in The world is Not Enough with DENISE RICHARDS, who
appears in Wild Things with Kevin Bacon.
John Harkness
Yeah, but ol' Adolf's credited appearance in Rio Rita is just another
case of archive footage (or rather voice only, it would seem). I'm
kind of betting he didn't actively participate in the production of
an American wartime comedy about Abbot and Costello messing around
with Nazi spies. I thought I'd limit myself to movies where he
appeared on purpose, which basically amounts to a few "documentary"
(propaganda) films from the thirties and early forties. Such movies
tend to lack real actors; I needed someone who had also been in other
films to provide a connection with modern Hollywood, and there was
Riefenstahl performing a dance in that Olympia flick...

Easier than you'd think, really....
Garbo's in Ninotchka with Bela Lugosi.
Lusgosi's in The Body Snatcher (and several others), with Boris
Karloff
Karloff's in The Terror with Jack Nicholson
Nicholson's in A Few Good Men With Kevin Bacon.
I heard a story, which is probably bullshit, that when Will Smith was
offered the role in "Six Degrees Of Separation", he misheard the title and
said "Why would I want to be in a movie about Kevin Bacon?" Sounds too cute
to actually be true.
Kevin "Not Bacon - Hell, Not Even Kline" Cogliano
I not only went to school with Mira Sorvino's brother for seven years, but
also was in a couple of school plays with him. Would that count?
And yes, even if you're not using the family relation, he _did_ have a small
part in "Summer of Sam".

Easier than you'd think for just about everyone, really. The real
challenge for Bacon-ologists is finding someone who is connected but -
can't- be connected in less than 4 moves. There's a fair number of
infinity level actors (who can;t be connected in any way) but they're not
really known to anyone (mostly appearing in obscure Sri Lankan films, or
the like).
Ed Marinaro was on Hill Street Blues. Tim Robbins once guest starred on HSB.
Tim Robbins was in "Mission to Mars" with Gary Sinese, who was in "Apollo 13"
with KB.
>Bill Bixby
Bill Bixby was in "The Incredible Hulk" with Lou Ferrigno, who was in "Pumping
Iron" with Schwartzeneggar, who was in "The Terminator" with Michael Biehn, who
was in "The Rock" with Ed Harris, who was in "Apollo 13" with KB.
>Stephanie Zimbalist
She was in Remington Steele with Pierce Brosnan, who was in "Dante's Peak" with
Linda Hamilton, who was in "The Terminator" with Michael Biehn, etc.
>John Wayne
He was in "True Grit" with Robert Duvall, who was in "Deep Impact" with Morgan
Freeman, who was in "Bonfire of the Vanites with Tom Hanks, who was in "Apollo
13" with KB.
>Katie Couric (appearances on Cheers and Murphy Brown)
She was on Cheers with Ted Danson, who was in "Saving Private Ryan" with Tom
Hanks, etc.
>Lassie
June Lockhart was in the Lassie TV series, and she was also in the 1998 "Lost
in Space" movie with William Hurt, who was in "Broadcast News" with Albert
Brooks, who was in "Out of Sight" with George Clooney", who was in "Batman and
Robin" with Arnold, etc.
>Frank Gifford
Frank was on Monday Night Football with Howard Cosell, who was in "Bananas"
with Woody Allen, who was in "Sleeper" with Diane Keaton, who was in "Reds"
with Jack Nicholson, who was in "A Few Good Men" with Noah Wyle, who was on ER
with Clooney, etc.
And I did all these without even mentioning JFK.
Michael O'Connor - Modern Renaissance Man
"The probability of one person being right increases in a direct porportion to
the intensity with which others try to prove him wrong"
Gleason was in "Nothing in Common" with Tom Hanks, who was in "Apollo 13" with
KB.
Michael O'Connor - Modern Renaissance Man
Another thing is that he has acted with virtually every major star in his
various films, and has been in movies like JFK which had scores of stars in it.
Too bad he didn't have a cameo in "The Player"; then you could have connected
him to virtually everybody.
Yah. I have a friend who is *excellent* at the Kevin Bacon game, but he's
not really playing the Kevin Bacon game. He's playing the John Candy
game, and just connecting to Kevin Bacon through JFK. If you're familiar
with one actor, you can probably link him to Kevin Bacon and then go from
there.

My sister and I recently started doing the U2 game-- try and connect U2 to
other bands/musicians and actors in the least number of steps. It's a lot
of fun. We've done the Gene Hackman game also (since he has been in soooo
many movies).

Pee Wee Herman
Christopher Lee
Bruce Campbell
Jason Schwatzmann
Christopher Reeve
BTW: When Bacon took a role in JFK, this game got a helluva lot easier.
