THE COVE (no spoilers)

In my experience, viewers rate documentaries more highly than an
objective appraisal would seem to warrant. Most probably, freshly
aroused sympathy for the film's message leaks into their voting. And
THE COVE is no exception. However, note that, this time, those
ratings are nearly off the chart (...8.5 at IMDb, and 95% at
RottenTomatoes). This 90-minute expose has plenty of excitement and
pathos ...and, although it -- perhaps inadvertently -- raises even
deeper questions than it answers, the exploration is always
stimulating and often harrowing. Recommended.

as a film its a drag. as information its like oh my god, had me sick
to the stomach and furious. seems like in food inc. or the michael
moore pics that embarassment is the key ethical force to our western
style democracies, certainly neither of the political poles, which
here come out as hideous fuckers 'libertarian' shits 'subsidised' by
socialism, goes to show that they complement each other, free flow
from a blinkered take of the world, that the fight for the means of
production between capitalism and socialism is nothing without a
consistantly journalistic- yes- embarassment attitude.

If, by 'drag', you mean it's a bore, then I thoroughly disagree. If
you mean it's a downer, then glad you enjoyed it.
Meanwhile, the 'embarrassment' you mention hinges first on the highly
speculative notion -- and, with 'speculative', I'd emphasize
'provocative' rather than 'dubious' -- that dolphins are, say, our
aquatic Zen masters. All in all, and for better or worse, quite a
stirring movie... and, yeah, maybe even a litmus test of many sorts...

no, well i was thinking of the mercury levels.
so i was thinking by no means of provocation, but that what we do in
private must constantly be put to public scrutiny because there's a
different ground for whats acceptable there, and its always lagging
behind the brutalities going on in futuristic private landia
so private/ subsidised short term profit motive this film demonstrates
would be a sick society if it didnt have a pendulum hitting it back

well profit motive and cultural tradition cuz if iirc dolphin food
doesnt even create profits, so its just about maintaining fabricated
industries, even thou they're less competitive, a bit like the music
industries vs the internet
