Hey,
Tomboy gotta dance. Toni – an eleven-year-old is sparring with her brother in the boxing ring when she notices a competitive dance troupe practicing – it's more hiphop than Alvin Ailey and she decides to join.
The film follows the rehearsals – and other aspects of Toni's life – until a dancer has a physical fit and ends up on the floor. Then – days later – another dancer is struck by the mysterious fit. Tests are made and theories are offered and still the fits reoccur.
There is no overwrought acting – in this debut film, written and directed by Anna Rose Holmer – and little is predictable in the script that contains a scene of magical realism. An off-the-path adventure and well worth it.
