You are just talking aesthetics, even superficialities. SJP goes way, WAY
beyond that. She is metaphysically hideous; a ghastly challenge to all that
is decent in this world.

She is grotesque down to the subatomic level. She is an irreparable flaw in
the basic fabric of the Universe--her mere being ties String Theory in
knots. The laws of gravity and entropy are suspended in her presence--all
matter flees from her appearance. A black hole would vomit her up, gladly.

On a moral plane, her existence alone causes any rational man to doubt the
existence of a just, omnipotent god--there is seemingly no theodicy that can
account for her. To see her is to despair, to lose all hope. At such times,
the thought of suicide is a man's only consolation.

A blurry photo of a reflection of a shadow of her visage can produce a
reaction reminiscent of the "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" episode of Star
Trek. It has happened to many a poor soul not adequately prepared for such
an encounter. A trail of shattered minds and horribly mutated optic nerves
follows in her wake--blindness is balm and death a blessing to such
unfortunates.

Stated more colloquially. and as we used to say back in the dorm, she's
fugly, man: a creature feature, a horror show, a fucking ghoul. There is no
even theoretical amount of beer that would make her doable--according to the
laws of thermodynamics, the entire Universe could not contain such a stein.

Never cared much for Jodi Foster. Great looking, fine woman, nothing
wrong at all. Just doesn't come across with all that sensitivity. No
growl to miscasts like her in Taxi or Shields in Pretty Baby. Never
was or became much of a big deal - Taxi I'd think would have benefited
with a passionate side from her. Kathleen Turner, oth, follows opposite
- the role specialist for genuine man-eater material, or Michael
Pfeiffer for a lighter shade of class in Fabulous Baker Boys or
Scarface.

She's one of the most gifted actresses currently working. She also shows
what's wrong with roles for women in Hollywood, because they have such a
hard time coming up with anything that's even worthy of her acting talent.

Not to mention coming out of the soap-opera circuit. Soap operas are
right up there with nicotine and crack cocaine. I remember her fondly
from Benny & Joon. So, had a curious peek around the corner. Nope -
nothing to do with her or a stymied realization as potential. She
largely appears to have played it the way she saw it -- emphasis on
soap training, as in strong. Talented parents, no doubt inspirational
childhood forces. May be onto a ringer with third husband Bart
Freundlich -- whose works offhand look allied into the league.
Attractive woman - have a happly lovey-dovey with Bart - but overall a
self-imposed study of potential in a genre bent and methodology that
won't define her as for an acclaimed actress of a pioneering mold.

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle - Babysitter movie. Unseen.

The Fugitive - Fill part.

Short Cuts - Looks like I saw it, vaguely familiar, but can't say for
sure; saw a film with the screen divided into four boxes, with four
interlaced themes going simultaneously. Hope Altman's is better.

Safe - Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and holistic retreats in new age
redwoods. Unseen.

Boogie Nights - Quintessential porn for transpositional soap opera.
Not bad, but she'd have done a lot better auditioning with Val Kilmer's
take on Johnny Wadd, Wonderland, and skipped Reynolds. Never quite got
back up in the high saddle after Sally Field.

The End of the Affair - Continental film. May be interesting,
potentially conservative material. Unseen.

Far from Heaven - What's with these dispassioned issues, reporting, as
it were, indiscriminately life events unfolding on film... An exercise
in staying awake.

The Hours - See above while twisting despondently.

Hannibal - Sauteed brains. . . anyone? Unseen (if not, then better to
believe me when I'm lying).

The Forgotten - Clandestine aliens sucking people out of windows before
they become too informed. Whoa - what happened here, Julianne, having
brunch with bred-from-the-crib Daryl Hannah... Unseen.

Magnolia - Another interlocking schism of fate as thematic character
devices. Partially seen - up to Tom Cruise's unusual sale's pitch for
sexual enhancement. Must have fallen asleep.

Freedomland - Straight-playing plot with an ending twist on delusional
psychosis as motive affected by trauma. Unseen.

You unjustly demean Sarah Jessica Parker. Granted, she lacks the
glamorous vulnerability of a Rita Hayworth, or the subtly predatory
win-me stare of a Denise Richards. But Ms. Parker's physiognomy hardly
suggests an inter-species crossbreeding experiment gone awry. I think
your mother was scared by a seahorse.

When he was a film critic Graham Greene made a snide remark about Irene
Dunne when she was singing to a horse in some movie, in describing the
scene he said, "Miss Dunne is the one without a white blaze on her
forehead."

The method of unique beauty is to draw upon features far from the norm,
and to blend them into an harmonious visage. Ms. Parker is an
equestrian's wet-dream built of pipe cleaners... and winsome. Saddle

The film where Greene likened Dunne to a horse was "High, Wide and
Handsome". Haven't seen it myself. At least Greene didn't get sued for
that remark as he did by Shirley Temple for remarks he made about her.
Shirley won her case.

Sandra Oh rendous!

This ugly, big, deformed face doesn't belong on the screen except for
beasts roles. Ugliness has become a prerequisite to find work in
Hollywood so it seems. Ugly beyond belief. When she stares at a camera
with her cross-eyed look, it's enough to give you goose bump. Scary,
scary, scary.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Horse-faced on 2 tooth picks. Ugly, skinny, not even an actress.

Tori Spelling

Big square, pig-faced with batracian eyes and crooked nose. Ouch!

Maggie Gyllenhaal. Extremely, extremely, extremely homely. Wonder how
she got in Hollywood in the first place.

Even if I agreed with any of that, it's got nothing to do with the fact
that she's extremely unattractive, and as she ages is headed fast for
'ugly'

I cringed during her nude scene in Boogie Nights.

I don't care for redheads, and have never understood why a woman who
would be objectively ugly with any other hair color is automatically
considered beautiful because she's red.

There's that.

Yeah. Rosie's a classic case of beauty being skin deep, but ugly going
all the way to the bone. In her case, it's oozing outward.

Same notation for Paris Hilton. She might be attractive if she never
spoke and you didn't know a thing about her. But as it is . . .

Apparently Hollywood has some stereotypes that they use as shortcuts.
Red headed women are generally good girl-next door (but without lots
of freckles - it's not real), red headed men are generally comic
relief. Blond men tend to be bad, but not so bad that they get
Oscars for their bad-guy roles.

Weird.

Some people have so much inner beauty that it commands your attention,
admiration, and respect. Parker is a jewel ..

The thing about the first three above is, yes, they aren't beautiful by
today's standards...but they redeem themselves by -- I know it sounds
cliche-ish -- having great personalities. I exclude Jennifer Jones
because I find her beautiful.

The perfect example of this is the French actress Isild Le Besco.
Downright ugly. But she's completely beautiful on the basis of her
character, at least the one she played in "Girls can't swim" ("Les
femmes ne savent pas nager").

I think that URL just catches her at a bad angle.... She's definitely not a
beauty, but not ugly either.

I must disagree with one: Maggie Gyllenhaal is cute.

What's to kid? I 2nd whoever nominated her on the following:
Her eyes are too far apart, her nose is too big, and she has no ass.
Take away the blonde mane, the tits and legs and she's not much to
look at. She's a case of having certain distractions that make you
look at her without seeing her flaws unless you're looking for them.
The overall effect is nice at a glance, but when you start isolating
components in detail the illusion falls apart. I guarantee you if you
picked her up at a club and took her home what you wake up with in the
morning when the makeup is all rubbed off and the hair is a mess would
not be what you were attracted to the night before. Then there's the
fact that intelligence has an attraction all its own, and she's flat
out of the running on that score.
