Just got back from Halloween: H20, I noticed two Scream references, one of
which very obviously is Scream 2 playing on a TV though. The second is a
reference to Scream which was a reference to Halloween. The first girl
killed in Scream was Casey Becker and her father says to her mother
something along the lines of 'Go down the street to the Mackenzie's house
and call the police.' Which is a reference to the first Halloween.
However, in Halloween: H20 Jamie Lee Curtis says something to the effect
of 'Go down 1 block to the Becker's and call the police.' I'm not sure if
thats the EXACT quote, but thats basically it. Which I figured was a
reference to Scream's Halloween reference. It seems to obvious to not be
intentional.

The other reference I noticed was the other obvious Janet Leigh and the
Psycho car reference.

At any rate, the audience was about all 16 or 17 when I went tonite and I
don't believe any of them had seen the first Halloween. None of them got
the joke where she was about to go into a closet. And they couldn't
believe he wasn't killed by a knife wound or something. *Sigh* but I
digress.

What other references did anyone see?

Just before Jamie Lee's mom wishes her a "Happy Halloween," there's a
snippet of Bernard Herrmann's PSYCHO score on the soundtrack. Nice.

I'm suprised no one has made note of the Scream refrence where you see one of
the charcters reflected in Michael Meyers eye. I'm not sure butthis may have
even been done before Scream.

At the beginning of the film Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space was being
played on a TV.

I really have to disagree. It's an obvious (but organic) reference to
Halloween. Scream happened to have a reference to the same line. I don't know
how that would make this a reference to a Scream reference. This is, after all,
a sequel to Halloween, with the same actress playing the same character who
said the line in Halloween.

There was also the line near the beginning about opening up a hotel in the
middle of nowhere.
I'm glad most of the references weren't distracting. I had heard there were
some Psycho homages and I was worried that the movie would be following the
Scream formula (which doesn't make much sense, since the references are part of
the Scream premise).

You don't find it coincidental that they use the SAME last name of the
father who used that Halloween line in Scream? C'mon now.

There was a reference to Halloween 1 in there.

In Halloween 1, Laurie turns and bumps into the sheriff.
The sheriff makes some remark about everyone deserving a
little scare on Halloween. I can't remember what Laurie's
reply was.

In H20, Laurie turns and bumps into Janet Leigh. Leigh makes
the same remark as the sheriff did. Laurie's reply was
that she had had her share.

Was it scream 2 on the second tv screen, or an episode of buffy the
vampire slayer? Which one is more likely to be watched by teenage girls?

as the whole film was a reference to Halloween 1, that's hardly
surprising.

Did anyone else notice that the first private school student to die, the nerdy
kid who stole the liquor, that right before he went into that room, he said,
"I'll be right back." I think Williamson had something to do with that. If
you think about it, Halloween H20rrible title followed those rules pretty
closely.
Laurie's boyfriend: way too horny, concerned with sex for most of movie
Nerdy kid: Stole alcohol, constant mentioning of 3-ways
Nerdy kid's girlfriend: Smoked
Nurse: Smoked
Kids next door to nurse: Suspended from school for being violent.

Shit, now that I think about it, Halloween is pretty cliche. Oh fuckit, I
still liked it.

They were watching Scream 2. It was when CiCi was in the dorm while the mixer
was going on, and the Ghostface killed her.

Don't worry about it. Her only reply was a simple, "Yes sir."

In the original Halloween, Jamie Lee Curtis is sitting at the back of the
class daydreaming and looking out the window when and she sees Michael
Myers watching her from across the street. She is interrupted when the
teacher asks her to answer a question about a book (can't remember which
book it is) and Laurie's answer has something to with the fact that the
character in the book can't run away from their fate. When Laurie looks
back outside the window, Mike Myers has disappeared.

In H20, that Dawson's Creek girl is sitting at the back of the class
daydreaming and looking out the window and she sees Michael Myers watching
her through a gated window. She is interrupted when Jamie Lee Curtis asks
her to answer a question about the novel "Frankenstein" and her answer has
to do with the fact that Dr. Frankenstein had to eventually confront his
monster in the end. When the girl looks back outside the window, Mike
Myers has disappeared.

I chuckled when Janet Leigh comforted Jamie Lee Curtis by
saying, "we've all had bad things happen to us in the past..."

I *really* expected the old lady (played by Leigh) to get
knocked off in the shower... But they didn't go for it.

>What other references did anyone see?

In the scene near the very beginning, when they're investigating
the old lady's house being broken into, one of the people
is standing on a front porch, and there's a full-head mask from
one of the "Hellraiser" Cenobites visible sitting on a piece
of lawn furniture.
