It wasn’t so much that I didn’t get it as it was that I didn’t like it.
It’s a little bit science-fiction, a little bit family drama, a little bit
comedy, a little bit existential nonsense. Maybe it would have helped if I
were a fan of chop socky actioners because there was a lot of that. I
wonder what the budget for costumes and sets was because if you’re going to
make a movie about everything everywhere you’re going to have to go to a
lot of places and wear lots of different clothes. The movie may be an
interesting, even admirable experiment, but I had to force myself to watch
it all. It is getting a lot of Oscar buzz so I guess a few people must’ve
seen something I did not. I often like movies that challenge me with new
ideas. take me to places I’ve never been, show me things I have never seen,
and this one did all that. For its inventiveness alone I recommend you have
a look. Keep an open mind and maybe you will like it. But I did not.
