One reviewer said the ending was ridiculous, that something would have enough sense to know it couldn't eat some things. I disagree about that. This thing could have been a big, stupid animal, with the ability to move through space. Some snakes here have been know to try to eat things that eventually killed them, because they are stupid. There is no reason to suspect because the creature was from outer space (presumably) that it had any higher intelligence. I thought the characters in the movie were pretty decent, believable.
