Ahh, that time of the year is upon us again. The feel of wet grass in the
morning, the smell of fresh paint on the field, and the sunburns that come
with being outside all day long. Many of you know this time of year as Band
Camp.

Riverdale High School in East Fort Myers Florida, has finished their camp
for the season. If you are unfamiliar with this school, what they have
accomplished is amazing; if you are familiar with this school, this feat is
simply astonishing. Yes, Riverdale High School, a band that 2 years ago was
almost nonexistent, has their first field show ready for their first
halftime performance.

Some of you are thinking: "That's no big deal, we've had our show learned
all summer." Others are thinking: "Our camp starts next week (or is in
progress), and we'll have our show ready as well." If your field show is
ready now, Bravo Zulu to you. But let me ask, how long did it take for you
to learn it?

2 days. It took Riverdale High School 2 days to learn their first field
show.

Ok then... great job for the kids in that band... but watch out,
peaking early will make the end of the season seem so much worse than
all the good hype at the beginning, like you say now. Trust me... my
old high school's band fell victim to that.

Good luck though... and remember, make it fun, or peak will come in
early October, not early November...
