Born on June 9, 1921, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles
John and Anna Mary (Franz) Urban. He was a World War II U.S. Coast
Guard Veteran, serving in Norfolk, VA; Folley Beach, SC; Hope Sound,
FL and St. Augustine, FL.
Following his Coast Guard Service, he served as a Federal employee at
the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay; the former Edgewood Arsenal; Army
Materiel Command Headquarters; and culminated his career at Fort
Holabird, MD.
He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and served as Drum
Major in both the St. James Academy Drum and Bugle Corps and the
nationally recognized Hamilton Post #20 Drum and Bugle Corps.
He and his late wife Bernardette (Wilkens ) Urban were married on
October 11, 1943.
He was a lifelong member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Bel Air,
MD.
Mr. Urban was a devoted father to Linda Edwards, Thomas Urban and his
wife Paulette, Robert Urban and his wife Cynthia, Jane McCumber and
her husband Peter, Carol McKenna and her husband Kevin. He is also
survived by nine grandchildren Jamie Edwards, Kristen Edwards, Jeremy
Urban, Brittney Alexander, Daniel Urban, Rene Swindell, Christopher
Swindell, Douglas McKenna and Michael McKenna. He was predeceased by
three sisters Margaret, Francis and Charlotte.
Visitation was held at the Schimunek Funeral Home in Bel Air on
Tuesday, November 24, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held
today at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Bel Air at 10:00 A.M.
Interment will follow at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
