I just can't believe we're even talking about changing corps into bands
- one more moronic change by the DCI fathers to drive the fan base away
from the activity. As long as they keeping making new performance
decisions and changing the activity from its roots the activity keeps
suffering. Many old DC fans have left junior drum corps due to the loss
of excitement and hype in the shows. Somebody ought to notice what the
fans did when the Kilties performed in the DCM championships. The crowd
went crazy for old time drum corps - Kilties got more fan reaction than
Madison (my favorate junior corps) performing the best junior show on
the field that night - one couldn't ask for more (inside of current
judging sheets and guidelines). Does anybody think maybe we're
emphasizing the wrong values on the score sheet to get the fannies back
in the stands. Plenty of people I know think so. To be honest
entertainment value has improved with the junior corps scene in the last
few years (more loud music, solos and climaxes - more high quality
equipment work, more quality marching, less dance....) but just listen
and watch when the crowd reacts and you may get a clue what the fans
like. I just don't think this is rocket science. So George lets all
fundamentally diddle with the activity again (band instruments) and
we'll (the loyal fan base) all hold our breath and hope DCI doesn't roll
revenue snake eyes again. Keith

WOW!!!! This is really peaking my interest. I was talking to a good
friend of mine last night about Kilties taking DCM seniors. He couldn't
believe it. I wish some of the horn players from those really great
Skyliner hornlines could get a load of this and maybe come out of the
woodwork, if for just three or four stage shows a year really knock 'em
dead again. GO KILTIES, see you at DCA Championships on Labor Day
Weekend. I really can't wait to see another entertaining senior corp.

Watch reaction to Kilties upcoming show 2 Aug. I strongly predict the
crowd (a sellout I,m sure) will go nuts. DCI will ignore this, because as
a dinosaur (marching participant), we just don't get it.

the 1977 DCI night show. I should know I was a member of the Racine
Kilties. And to my recollection that was the only time that this has
happened. Secondly, I must say that drum corp for a (too) long time
wasn't about precise drill, horn ensemble, etc. It was about how much
junk you could carry onto the field. What happened to those days when a
corp had to conceal (tackfully) props for their show?? What about huge
(straight) company fronts, and flying wedges (Kilt show '77)? The
Concord Blue Devils excited many a fan with all of the above mention
(except the flying wedge) to perfection. Drum Corps need to get back to
that way of thinking. Because that is what really separates marching
bands and DRUM CORPS.
