If we're talking about marching bands as well, there have been several Texas
bands with numbers in the 500's (lots of solid forms).

>What was the largest marching band/drum corps ever?
In 1974 the Los Angeles Chinese Drum and Bugle Corps
marched 200 members.
That was the ONLY year that DCI lifted its rules on
the number of members allowed to march.
They were also the loudest corps I have ever heard,
and proved once and for all that louder was not
necessarily better.
Same year, slightly smaller (160) was the Royal
Commadores. The best of the combinaton

Well, I never saw them, but I heard the Largo High School Band from
Largo Florida was very large, enough at one time to have varsity and
Junior varsity band, both very large.

Was this a DCI competition?
The 200 Member L.A. Chinese DC was on the field in competition. (1974)
Does anybody out there know the largest corps in a DCI sponsored competition?
How about the "olden days" of VFW and American Legion?

I seem to recall the largest band (in the Guiness book) was in
California in the late 70's or early 80's, but I cant remember how big.
I just remember that Danny Kaye conducted it....

>What about the All-Star marching Band assembled for the 1984 Los Angeles
>Summer Olympics - it was huge. Anyone have the numbers?
Largest marching band--even though I shouldn't post it here--was
assembled in Dodgers stadium on April 15, 1985 Los Angeles, CA. Danny
Kaye was the director.
4,524 members. 3,182 musicians and 1,342 auxillary (majorettes,
flaggets, drill team, dance team, directors, and drum majors). The
kids were form 52 area high schools.
They played three tunes including the Star Spangled Banner.
A little known side-note was that all 3,182 musicians were members of
the pit. :-)

"The largest marching band was assembled by the Los Angeles Dodgers at
Dodger Stadium on April 15, 1985. It consisted of 3,182 musicians and
1,342 majorettes, flag bearers, drill team members and directors for a
total of 4,524 students from 52 high schools in the area. They played 3
tunes as well as the National Anthem under the directorship of Danny Kaye.
The longest recorded musical march by a marching band is one of 37.9
miles from Lillehammer to Hamar, Norway, in 15 hours when, on May 10,
1980, 26 of 35 members of the Trondheim Brass Band survived the playing
of 135 marches."
As far as I know, these records still stand.

The Best/oldest vets from each midwestern corps got to go to orlando for 10
days to march for a parade so I believe there were 500(+/-) members.
I vividly remember that warm-up circle we formed at the parade site(we were
too large to form an arc). We did warm-ups and then space chords. We played
an old DC arrangement of auld lang syne(sp?) I remember the section of the
piece after the sops played a "chimes" part where everyone came in on an
FFFF. Holy Cow! that was the loudest F***ing thing I've ever heard in my life!
I also remember the lead sop("PorkChop" from Minnesota Brass) who had a scream
solo at the end..wow.After we were done playing, we noticed that no other
music groups around us were warming up, they were just staring :)
The coolest thing about that trip was the fact that after a while, we began
to look past the uniforms and see the people. I made lifelong friends on that
trip that I would've never talked to in the summer. I guess that when you look
through the summer rivalries and the "I hate that corps because they're a
bunch of so and so's" attitude (we've all been guilty of it) it, it came down
to one thing; we were just a bunch of kids who loved corps.
Anyway...that was the largest drumcorps I was ever a part of.
Had to have been over 500 in that band.......My college band (Auburn) had
over 500 on the field a few years ago when we alumni marched with the
current band, and I think the Big Statue of Liberty band was
bigger.......Huge drumline.....I do remember that they marched
Yamaha.....think I remember counting 12 bass drums.
I do remember that they played "Somewhere" from West Side Story as their
closer....not a bad arrangement. Anyone out there who participated?
