What is the lowest score in DCI history? If I remember correctly, a CORPS
actually scored an "eleven" or something like that at DCI Canada one
year.. (Was it the corps "New Day"? ) Anybody with archives of recaps????

Total recall (maybe not..)

At a small show in the Chicago area (Elmwood Park) in 1986, the score
of the last two corps barely added up to ONE-THIRD of the winning corps.

If I remember...

Bluecoats: 70-something
Knights: 60-high
(other corps)
New Day: 17
Prairie Fire: 8

YES!!! A corps actually scored an "8" (I know it was a single digit score)

BTW- this show was so small, our top bass drummer's family comprised one-fifth
of the audience.

Gotta love DCM shows...

I heard of a low score from Prairie Fire before.
I new somebody that marched with Troop in 87.
He said when they anounced the score "Prairie Fire 7.5"
Somebody yelled back "No!,not the captions". And then
somebody yelled back "No!, that is the Score".

I saw Prairie Fire open at Terre Haute, IN in either 86 or 87. There were 12
people on the field, and if I remember right they only scored a 7 or an 8. I
really felt sorry for those kids. They were trying, they just didn't have any
numbers or any guidance. You can't hide weaknesses with only 12 people.

Not only was there only 12 members I heard most of them
were very young. My friend said most corps felt sorry for
them because they were so young ( pre-teens) and tried very
hard.

I seem to recall a show in Horicon, WI (the biggest damn mosquitos I've
ever seen by the way) when we (Phantom Regiment) beat New Day 88 to 8. I
don't think it was a DCI or DCM sanctioned show and the judges were
supposedly the local Elks or Moose or something. Does anybody else out
there remember that? Brad, Brian?

I don't know I may have some recaps that prove this, I would have to dig,
but I think know that when I marched CapitolAires, during a lot of our
first shows there were some corps down in that range. Sounds ridiculous
but true. I'll try to see if I have some old recaps. I can guarantee that
it was below 16.0 !!!!!

Although it is a bit sad, these corps are the ones I probably respect the
most because they have the guts and dedication to go on the field
anyways!!!

When I used to teach division III, my favorite thing to do was go to DCM prelims
for A and A/60 corps. This would start at something like 7am on tuesday or
wednesday morning of DCM week.

There would be all kinds of small corps that I'd never heard (and I'd been
doing corps for 8 yrs at that point). Some of these corps had less than
ten members and very young. This one inner city corps had a tiny little
cymbal player that breakdanced for the drum solo! This kid was was a cross
between Emannuelle Lewis and a young Sammy Davis Junior...He was
incredible, all three and a half feet of him! I remember the audience
erupting into wild applause, all twelve of us (well, what do you expect at
7:30 in the morning?!!?).
I remember, Miles, the horn instructor where I taught would record all the
performances on a little recordable walkman and he would listen to 'em on
the bus rides.

You had to love these little kids, sure they maybe their level of
performance wasn't up to the level of the older kids; but they had HEART!

BTW: The corps with the little dancing cymbal player got a score of 6.7,
with penalties:)

I know that this isn't the lowest score ever but I think it has some
vilidity in posting:

In 1993 For the first show we, the Blue Stars from LaCrosse, WI, scored
a 19 (or something like that) We were so bad that the some of the
judges tried to persuade us to fold. It turns out that we got better.
(we were the 1993 div. 3 world champions) I guess it only goes to show
you that you shouldn't count out anybody in the first week of June (or
anytime, but especially in June).

I've seen much dialogue regarding this topic and have to admit
that I can envision the pre-DCI (way pre) waiting for someone to
chime in regarding on one of our all time favorite Corps, the
Barringer-Walker Cadets of the Greater New York Circuit in
the early 60's.

No offense to anyone who ever marched with them but, I
distinctly remember the night the announcer stepped up
to the mic and said "... and in last place ... with NO score ..."
That's right - the entire Corps got zipped. Again, this is pre-DCI
when the tick pencil just kept marking errors.

It wasn't uncommon for a Corps to get zeroed-out in a particular
caption but, I don't remember it happening to any other Corps on
the whole.

there. We got an exhibition "courtesy score" of 29.?? We were so happy

Although, I also remember - the drumline didn't score. Not only did they
zero-out, but they could have feasably gotten a "negative score" if they
had continued marking the page with a solid stripe of black ticks across

I am not on AOL. RAMD is an internet newsgroup that is read by users of
*many* servers, not just America On Line.

One of the interesting aspects of the internet is that we have newcomers
every day. A reader could have joined RAMD a couple of days after your
original post.

Also, not all RAMDers will have opportunity to read an entire thread. With
the amount of traffic that RAMD has, there are very little readers who read
every post. That's why leaving part of the post to which you respond is
helpful and so it signing your name.

Besides, it just plain 'ol polite to sign your name.

> I (LEE RUDNICKI) guess you (Whitney) were too busy compiling polls or

I *am* busy compiling a poll and you missed the November 30 deadline :(
(FWIW, over 175 RAMDer's responded.) I would have missed *this* post had
you not sent it to me by email.

I re-read your original post. In fact, you did ask about lowest score in
*DCI* history, not drum corps history. I came into the thread late

Not if you entered as a Senior corps! I know DCM has a division for the

I'm having problems posting my articles via Cisco.com. My apologies if you

Okay, then tell me where and when the Cybercorps tailgate party is in
Toledo! I'll bring the dogs and a new cheese slicer :-)

Maybe *you* don't :-> Lee and I have exchanged a few email since this

post. I find that he will apologize if he is made aware that he offended
someone unintentionally.

Lee, you *really* should take a trip to http://dejanews.com and read

some of my past posts. I've read *all* of your posts.

:-D Vince, you are bad <no wonder we get along :->. IMO, Lee's posts
*are* getting better.

What *were* we talking about anyway? Isn't this a drum corps newsgroup? :->
