So here's what I want to know....if she is irrelevant to the drum
corps activity, then why aren't we indifferent to her?

I mean... hey, Catherine and I have gone our rounds, she has some
notion that I'm part of some conspiracy...what ever..... but
really.... there seems to be an aweful lot of time wasted on someone
that is "irrelevant".

I dunno... carry on.

How 'bout that, the guy that called me a "stalker" is stalking me around
Usenet! Oh, that's right, it's okay for you because you admit you're a
hypocrite. Do you like Lightfoot, too? There'd be something we have in
common. And you'd do yourself a favor if you checked out some of Cathy
Cowette's music, she's a wonderful singer and guitarist. Visit
http://www.cathycowette.com/ , she has lots of mp3's of her solo as well as
her with the Lightfoot Tribute Band, great stuff.

In any case, Jim, I really encourage you to listen to some of Cathy
Cowette's music, if your tastes run to the folk-influenced acoustic guitar
genre. She really does some nice things with the works of the great
singer/songwriters, both as a solo and as a part of the tribute band. Enjoy!

Wow. You go way back. I'm new to this ramd thing so I've missed alot of
posts, and still can't figure out why you're so angry. I also went on your
website. (Some time later I'll have a couple questions re: the Norse
thing...I have a necklace that's has some markings that are supposed to be
of some Norse god..anyway, will ask about that later). But I just really
want to know why you are so angry. I know the activity has taken on so many
changes, some for the better, alot not. But hasn't the activity changed
right along with society? Everyone thinks they years THEY were in drum corps
were THE years of drum corps and everything before it and after it sucked.
You are not the only one that believes this way.

What is it, exactly, that you don't' like about today's drum corps? I work
with a lady who has become a really good friend. She marched SCV guard
through out the 70's. She hates the color guards of today b/c she hates all
the dancing and "leaping around" as she calls it. She likes the
militaristic stuff. However, I showed her a video of a winter guard I
taught. They were "leaping around" but they were CLEAN. It turns out, it's
not the leaping around she hates, its how dirty the guard have become over
the years. (People say the same thing about the corps proper, that they are
dirty, technique has fizzled, etc). Is that your opinion? That you'd like
the stuff of today if it was clean and well executed, or you just really do
not like all the showy stuff? I can't really tell where you are coming from
because all those posts get confusing as to who is saying what and secondly
either you are jumping all over someone or someone is jumping all over you
and then when that happens, all logic goes out the window. So what's going
on? Let's just keep it here b/c when it goes to the boards, everyone gets
all crazy and I just want some clear discussion.

Are there any "new school" mainstream (i.e top 25) corps that you like? I
have to admit, while I like new school drum corps better than old, there is
alot that I don't like just b/c the lack of execution. I like Phantom
Regiment's 89 show, Madison Scouts 1995 (is that the year they did the bull
fighter show? That's the one I like) I liked Star of Indiana's Medea...was
that 93? While I've been a rabid SCV fan since being in the womb, I've hated
every show they've done after 91 Miss Saigon. (I'd want to commit murder if
I was an alum after seeing what they did with 1992....the Bottle Dance in
BARE FEET? )

As for my "credentials" (I guess in this activity, that's important) I've
learned from the RAMD board that I'm a "bando" (never heard of that term
before...) I've been in various marching bands since the early 1980's.
(Color guard). All of my instructors were from various drum corps, mostly
scv and bd. But my parents would never allow me to audition for any corps.
(I had unbelievably strict parents). During high school, I (oops) dated one
of my instructors. He was on the visual staff. One thing I learned from
him was that I had a real eye for choreography, the ability to spot dirty
work and clean it quickly, etc. A good feel for color and shapes and a good
understanding of music So right after high school, I took the teaching
route. I did march in college marching band, which was "drum corps light".
All of SCV marched there to keep their chops up and staff were all scv / bd
alum so I kept my feet in that water. But like I said, I took the teaching
route. And I loved it. I taught just about every high school in the
northern california region. As well as some independent youth bands and
independent winter guards. I think one thing that differentiated me from
most instructors is that I spent a LOT of time teaching basics. Teaching
execution and CLEANING the work. I can't comment on DCI Judges, but I know
the local school circuits still reward higher for execution than they do for
level of difficulty. My guards weren't tip top on difficulty, but they were
CLEAN and as a result, I never had a guard take lower than 2nd place. And
they were in difficult circuits (our circuits are full of wannabe drum corps
/winter guard people trying to turn their high school guards into dc/wg
units). Anyway, I guess that puts me in an interesting "middle ground".
Like I said, I much prefer the guards of today than the ones of the past,
but unlike 99.9% of my teaching peers, I can't stand to look at a dirty
guard. I can't overlook sloppiness and say "Yeah, but look at what they
ATTEMPTED to do."

Ok, back to the Norse thing. I was given a necklace w/ a medallion on it.
And it has a symbol on it. It's supposed to be like a sign of protection
from a Norse god. It was given to me a while ago. My family is from
Norway. I'm second generation american - grandparents born in norway.
Anyway...just wondering if you know what the heck I'm talking about.

Anyway, this e-mail has gotten very long winded. Sorry. I just want to
know what makes your brain tick when it comes to dc. And I promise I won't
take anymore stupid pot shots at you on the boards.
Those boards are pretty lame anyway.

Welcome to what appears to constitute "drum & bugle corps" to some people. I hear
that someone you march with is spreading alleged stories about me from 26 years ago -
and not the nice ones (even things I didn't hear about THEN - a leetle "evolution" in
mobbing/bullying, as well as a continuous history that certainly ought to be openly
discussed, and NOT honored as EVERYONE appears to be working very diligently at doing
where I and a whole lotta others are concerned - and that's evidence of digging that
will one day - coming soon - become a most interesting lesson).

As for me - and for my intended audience - it's important to understand that EVERYONE
who e-mails you one day gets to completely disown the meaning of their words -
whenever it suits them. So when people who allege they don't know anything about yer
enemies NOW say "I guess I'll just have to wait until you decide that I won't screw
you like everyone else has", just remember what lying frauds are out there.

And interesting that your attitude has found "approval" amongst EVERYONE, Lisa -
wherever EVERYONE is in EVERYCORPS. You might be surprised (prolly not) at where
I've heard your locale dropped, and by whom.

so in my drunken state I have to say I think these things about you
1. You are a total weirdo that never marched a full season with any drum
corps for what ever reason and you are psycotically pissed off abou tthat
2. you really do have legitimate pissed off reasons to be pissed off, and if
anything, I could at least be a sounding board, if not a help in getting
these problems resolved.

I don't know what to think about you, Caterine. But I do know that I have
been attracted to, either as a boyfriend or as just a friend, to people that
didn't "march to the usual drummer' I odn't know what your story is,
Cathrine. Or if you'll ever trust me enough to ever tell me. That's ok.
I've just decided that you obviously have a story to tell. I'd like to hear
it. But not over the boards. Just here is fine. I guess I'll just have to
wait until you decide that I won't screw you like everyone else has. That's

What's an "alleged story"?

Lord knows I tried, but, for the life of me, I can't tease out a coherent
sentence from this mish-mosh.

But WHY does everyone (or did you mean EVERYONE?) screw YOU, Catherine? Why
are you always the victim? How is it that everywhere (EVERYWHERE?) you go,
you are targeted for mobbing and bullying? I've been trying for at least two
years to get some inkling as to why you feel so persecuted. I've asked you
as earnestly as I know how to just explain your grievances with EVERYONE in
plain English. I've mocked your claims of "set-ups" and "attacks" and being
deliberately given asthma by th EVERYONE's, hoping that would provoke you to
respond with some kind of comprehensible statement of how you've been
wronged. I've googled and googled and googled some more. So far, nothin'.
Just the typical Usenet kook pattern; some amorphous group of persecuters
(in your case, the EVERYONE's, for others it's "the Sputnik Forces" or "the
Nazi Mind Controllers") is out to get you for no discernable reason.

Again, the typical paranoid net kook response:"If you disagree with me,
you're one of THEM!"

That, along with your grandiosity, hostility and inability to function
socially (as evidenced by getting kicked out of no less than three drum
corps) is why I think you're a mentally ill Usenet kook.
