We have done two performances since and to be honest it was horrible
once on wet playing field the second on a paved area. The playing
field was freezing and my toes were numb by the end. The paved area
was also cold but painful, as there was small stones. After both it
was several days before my feet were clean!
I have heard of other groups performing barefoot, if so how do they
cope and techniques or tricks I should know.
Help please !!!

That depends... ôżô
Nooooo!
You're too young for Depends!!
I heard of them in the VK as "boxers rehearsals". Bill P. and Mike Murray
used to tease me about them when I joined the VK hornline in 1974. I went
to a men's department (back then, boxers weren't unisex) and got a pair (the
salesguy blushed). Then I went to a t-shirt place and had "I can make it
HARD for you" put on them. The boyzzz LIKED that...
Still making it HARD in 2002...
-- Catherine
THAT's one of the major differences between junior and senior corps... all
the Depends jokes!!!
(Potty stops become a whole HELL of a lot more vital as well - and that was
a sore enough subject in junior corps!!!)
-- Catherine
I'll make ya a deal. If you didn't finish the season, don't mention the corps
or the season. I assume you never finished the VK hornline, just because you
never seemed to finish anywhere else.

Probably was more curious on what you actually were.

You almost made me regurgitate my Minestrone...disgusting...

Hard for me to eat.

Hey, if you can get all the people on RAMD who never marched anywhere at all
to not mention any corps or the season unless they actually marched that
full season (as defined by that particular corps for all time for all
participants - you know, FAIRLY and without regard to politics), I'd be
happy to cut out the Blue Devils and the Caballaros. I finished everywhere
else, boobie...

#-- Are you trying to be not nice, yet another __________@aol.com?
#-- And you are basing your evidence for flaming someone you don't know on
selected RAMD posts which have been explicitly contradicted by others? Gee,
you're not following the "Stefanie's 49 Rules for Drum Corps Insight How-To
Guide" are you?

I'll make ya a deal. If you stop second guessing everything Catherine writes, I
won't have to correct you in front of the whole RAMD community.
Catherine completed every season while marching with three different corps over
9 years in Southern California. That's my first hand knowledge.
What are your sources?

Don't perform barefoot. If it's only a shoe problem, screw it and
throw on your tennis shoes (or ask everyone if they have whatever
colored shoes). It would be a pain to be a director stuck with a
medical bill or lawsuit because a kid stepped on a nail or broken
glass.
Wil
Underwear runthroughts aren't PAINFUL. Maybe wearing like shoes(that
each person would wear until you got uniform shoes would be a little
less painful.Marching barefoot in the cold is just stupid, and bound to
cause more problems than solve the "no shoes" fact.No shoes usually
means no traction on cold wet grass too.
J
BTW If this "story" is for real, you belong to the stupidest band
program on the planet.LOL
J
and irresponsible.

What Wil said is only partially true. As a heavy runner, I can tell you other
problems that can occur from not using shoes. First off, our feet are not as
"callased" as what you see in National Geographic. We wear shoes for a variety
of reasons, most of which is protection. To give you an idea. In running,
there is tremdous pressure put on the foot with each step. We're talking
thousand of pounds here. Now add to that dancing, jumping and other acrobatic
movements. The foot, by itself, would have a hard time supporting the body.
Sprains, strains and bruises would greatly increase. Shoes are designed for to
protect the foot and ankle from this pressure. They absorb this pressure.
I personally don't know who the band director is or his staff, but they need to
understand that they will be doing serious injury to thier students all "look
good". Believe me, if everyone had the same sneakers, even if they don't
match, a judge will not judge a band down because of that. I mean, look at
what the color guards are wearing in junior corps now. We don't see them
getting judged lower because of how awful they look.

Sounds like more of those dopey artsie fartsie Bohemian staff types
-who don't hold real jobs- telling you to go barefoot, without
considering the potential safety risks. Reminds me of the DCI staff
that all fell of their toppling scaffolding because they didn't
understand the concept of top heavyness and overloading a structure.
I bet 1000% if your school admin. knew of this they would not approve.
Thats fascinating so how come we do all our gymnastics and some dance
lessons in barefoot?? Its compulsory we dont get a choice. If there
a risk of such injury ???

tradition and appearances, possibly? supportive footwear interrupts the
"line", and just doesn't look good.
also, those are indoor activities. in gymnastics the competition floor has
springs under it, to diminish the effects of being barefoot, and to give a
little added boost...at least it was "back in the days"......and i know a lot
of progress has been made since then.
Ü
jan
former gymnast, who never suffered an ankle/foot injury from
gymnastics.....drum corps is a whole 'nother story.........
Heh... what DCI staff was this, and... when?
