Let's not forget Al and Josh Katz in the Caballeros. Two happy Jews I'm proud
to know as well. Oh, then there's always Josh Cohen in the Bushwackers.
Another happy Jew. But if there's one thing that stands out from the rest, all
these jews play a mean horn!

Before you buy.
Anaheim Kingsmen 1977-1978: Dave "Bagel Boy" Weinberg--also marched in
1980 or 1981 BD (now writing for Bushwackers), Marilyn Schneider--
marched in 1981 Freelancers, "Solly" Solomon--also marched in Seattle
Imperials, either 1979 or 1981. Marylin's older sister marched in 1977
as well. I'm sure there were others, but I can't retrieve the names.
North Star 1979-1981: "Red" Ed Corwin, who had previously marched in
27th Lancers. He was most recently involved in DC as DCWorld's
Advertising Director. One of my seat partners in 1981 was also Jewish,
but I'm embarrassed to say that I don't remember his name at all! :-(
In 1980, he marched in the Middlesex Guardsmen. BTW, both had older
sisters who marched in 27th's guard at the same time, so add them to
the list.
VK 1978: I'm sure there were more, but Steve (?) Neugroschl from my
old HS marched with them.
SCV 1977-1978: Shari Horn and her older sister--probably others. I
knew Shari from when she marched in UCLA's flag line in 1980-1981. I
was her instructor in 1980 and picked up *immediately* that she marched
in corps! BTW, it's interesting to get another perspective on her, as
she marched with Whitney both years.
I'd be happy to see *any* of these people post on RAMD (in Dave
Weinberg's case, post again. He was "dril...@aol.com" or something
like that during 1986-1997 and was the one who announced VK's folding
on RAMD in 1997; he hasn't been seen here since). I know two others
are or were on the net, but haven't been on RAMD.

Marilyn marched in the flagline with her sister Sue in 1977. That fall,
she grabbed the last available contra.
So when this tuba player named Dick Lamb joined up, we had to make him
SoCal's biggest and oldest rookie 3rd baritone!
Happy Hanukkah everyone, and enjoy the winter camps!

Frank, from your old digs, let's not ignore Art Kurth - with a three
page drumcorps resume dating to the 1947 Windy City Cadets. After all,
not everyone has their own museum (the Chicago Art Institute),
Also from your time & territory - Sie Lurie, director of the Royal Airs.

Thanks for her name!

At the time. Of course, it helped that my fellow UCLA Bruin,
Jon "Questor" Emery, moved from contra to Drum Major. Just after I
joined, another contra quit. When I finally figured out that he was
gone for good, some guy from Iowa got that last spot. :-( I didn't
get to march contra until 1981!
Oh, well, in "retaliation", I got to grab Marilyn during second tour.
;-) In retrospect, I was wasting my time. I may have the last man
with her and my future was with a then 14-year old girl who was
marching in SCV in 1978. Little did I know at the time!

"Dick" Lamb? :-/ I didn't know my father was marching! :->
In AK, I was Richard to everyone except the UCLA people, to whom I was
Rich, and the people on the "No Smoking" bus, who called me Vince,
because Richard Horie (my mirror image in the both the drill Bruce
wrote and the one you wrote) was Richard first! BTW, you should ask
Gary Kean about the time he asked "Richard, switch hands" and forgot to
say which Richard! :-D
>we had to make him SoCal's biggest and oldest rookie 3rd baritone!
Oldest? Maybe. Biggest? You forgot about "Moe"!

I may have missed someone making an anti-Semitic post or something, but what's with

We had a Jewish soprano player last year ;) When did you march Blue Stars BTW?
It's interesting because our corps song is Jewish Chorale.

Never to be in any corps again!!
(really!)
From the New York Skyliners there were a number of people from the
Hebrew persuasion. Let's see,.....there was Ralph Shur who was the
director of the Corps the year I joined who unceremoniously "impeached"
that same year in a "coup" led by another Hebrew named Walter "Winky"
Winkelman. Our horn arranger was a gentleman that I'm sure most of
the "older" people who frequent this newsgroup are familiar with
(especially arrangers who have their roots in Drum Corps like Wayne
Downey), the greatest of them all, Hy Dreitzer. Hank Goldstein was
director of the Corps the year just prior to the FIRST time the New
York Skyliners didn't take the field in the mid 50's. Al Koch ([who is
no relation to Ed the one time Major of the City of New York] is now a
retired Superior Court Judge who presided in Brooklyn, New York) played
baritone and was an Assistant Drum Major to Winky one year in the early
60's. Danny Feldstein, who moved to Chicago in the early 60's and
became heavily involved with the Chicago Vanguard Junior Corps and
helped them become a prominent force in the midwest for a few years
with Dreitzer as there arranger) played with the New York Skyliners in
the 40's and 50's.
That just off the top of my head.
