I was listening to the 2000 show for BD and had remembered a post concerning
some way of playing their drumline had done this year that was new or
revolutionary ( for lack of a better term ) Not being a drummer I'm not
exactly sure what to listen to/look for...so I was just curious as to what
exactly was different about the way they played last year.....

just wondering......

WELL...for starters, Blue Devils drumline was one of the dirtiest drumlines out
there last year! player to player the quality of sound and technique are all
different! it kills me to watch these guys play individually or critique them
player to player! how can you let each person sound or look different than the
person next him? its a shame to say but, 1997 was the last year they had a
solid percussion program. i have followed drum corps and many different
drumlines and if you watch or listen to BD, since 1998 they're snareline has
been a shitting mess, tenors have been decent, bassline has been solid,
pit..some years have blown my mind! BUT, lets not forget about the ensemble
tears all over the show..including finals performances!! its a damn shame that
some (notice i said some) sections can play well together but as an
ensemble...come on guys, figure it out! live up to your "name"

BD = Bad Diddles

You sure could have replied with a little more tact. Just my opinion.

Are you watching the same Blue Devils? Blue Devils line last year as a
whole was awesome. Their technique (llok again) was looking pretty good to
me, and others I'm sure. They have always had a solid percussion program
and always will. I think you should watch them again, and with out bias
this time! go to www.vicfirth.com and download videos of their drum line
this year and I promise you they are a powerhouse this year!!!

P.S. I'm serious, watch their line again!

Tact? What's that? Oh yeah, that thing that occasionally gets on RAMD but
then gets clubbed into submission...

There's some mp3's floating around (on Napster and the BD web site) from a
1999 lot warmup as they run through their show. I personally thought they
sounded great! I may not like their current style of music, but they can
keep together when they want to! :)

They need to "want to" more than once or twice a season.

Im curious as to what backrounds in marching percussion these critics have to
be judging the quality of these lines? Dudes, lay off!! We all love this
activity so lets not bad mouth people that love too!!!

What is your marching background? Old School? Fife band? Strictly
Rudimental? High School Marching Band? College Marching Band? University
Marching Band? Please do tell me, I would like to know what background you
have. (Directed to Slammed4FU)

Hey i do agree that BD is really good (when they want) but they just didnt do
it for me this summer...or anysummer since 96.....i aint gonna bad mouth them
because lord know all those guys are a hell of a lot more talented than i
am.....but listen to the CD'S there are a lot of ensamble tears.

Maybe the ensemble problems are because of poor staging of the drum line on
the field? I'm not saying that they don't practice, damn I know those guys
practice every chance they get. But maybe they don't practice as an
ensemble enough?

Amen to that. BD drumline was D-I-R-T-Y.
