Why?
He is by far one of the most honest, polite, caring, sincere, dedicated,
determined, happy, funny, etc, etc ... people I have EVER met!
He is without a doubt the BEST person to ever sit behind a microphone at
a corps, band or guard show!
He is the first person off his butt and on his feet cheering loudly and
clapping for EVERY SINGLE participant performing, regardless of who they
are or what level they are!!!
He is a darn good drill writer and an impecable marching instructor.
and . . . he was, in my opinion, the BEST drum major to ever step onto a
drum corps podium (and that's saying a lot since I've seen videos of me!
it's a joke and Ryan will understand it)
But seriously, I have known Ryan for a number of years and I can
honestly tell you, he is a tremendous individual who cares so much for
the activity and for ALL of the performers. He is the ONLY person I
know who does not care one bit what "color" you're wearing, if you are
part of drum corps, you're part of his family!
I wish EVERYONE could be as selfless and caring as Ryan!!
So, I hereby nominate Ryan H. Turner for DCI Hall of Fame!!

I had the pleasure of having Ryan as an instructor for a little over two
years. I wish he had been around when I was drum major, because I'm sure I
would have been that much better with a little help from him. Just to let
you know Ryan, the kids at Fountain Valley are still asking about you. Not
only do you deserve to be in the DCI Hall of Fame, I'd be more than willing
to nominate you for the All Around Nice Guy Hall of Fame.

Sheesh, Greg, you are far too kind...
I stand humbled, if not completely undeserving of such praise. I would rather
direct that praise right back out to the kids that work their asses off to put
these shows together. I just clap for them...who am I anyway?
But thanks...your sediments...uh, I mean your sentiments are greatly
appreciated. And I really mean that...
Ryan H. Turner--Man w/NO life whatsover...and proud of it!!
MARCHING BAND, DRUM CORPS, WINTER GUARD FAN
VK DM 1986 and 1987
Show Design Consultant/Visual Consultant/Marching Instructor
911/Fire Dept Comm. Dispatcher...and a partridge in a pear tree!
Oh don't be going down that road, Mr. Do!! You'll make me cry!!! :-(
But thanks...I miss you guys a ton!!!
When I read this, I thought perhaps he or she was too close to being flamed by
other people. But actually, since it was about me, I think I would be
qualified to respond better.
And my response...???
I AGREE WITH YOU!!! Yes, I do. I am nowhere in the same ballpark as Ralph
Hardimon or Tom Float or Myron Rosander or Jay Murphy, etc, etc, much less the
same STATE as Emmons, Hoffman (who I became friends with in his final years),
or Sanford (who I taught with at a clinic many moons ago!). These guys
personify for me people who are dedicated beyond a shadow of a doubt to the
perpetuation of this activity for the benefit of today's youth.
I applaud for the kids, however, and as was described, I don't really care what
"color" a uniform is worn. I have learned that in my 34 years, even if I don't
"like" a show or don't understand it (see other post regarding Mandarins), I
revel in the fact that these are kids! KIDS!!! And it's great to see some
positive things happening with kids nowadays. It just means more to me now at
my age than before when I used to be super competitive, and that's it.
I think the only thing that I did for the activity was show the world what it's
like to totally lose oneself on the podium on the final night of your
performance career with DCI, and just have a load of fun (please reference 1987
VK video for said performance). I hope if anything, THAT is what I'm remember
for.
And I'm an ok instructor....but just ok!!!
But thanks for your opinion...you are right.
Ryan is a far better person than almost anyone else I know. He deserves
to be recognized as such.
I understand getting him into the Hall of Fame is impossible, but what
the hay, we can dream can't we?
Have a good summer and remember to cheer for EVERYONE on the field, even
if you don't like the show, you have to appreciate the work the kids are
doing.

Greg
Cool! (and you quoted a LAKERS employee!!)
Enjoy the corps. From what I've seen out here, this is going to be one
of the best years ever!

Greg
Yep, I think you're right there Ron.

Please refrain from including my name in your posts. I am not in the
slightest bit interesting in finding out who you are. Someone else will
have to lavish you with the attention that you so desperately want.

Well, I look much better in real life and that uniform is quite bulky. I
look much better in my shorts and tank tops at rehearsal. Why don't you
drop on by and say HI! I have a lot of friends coming by today, you'd get
to meet them!
I am not harrassing you. I sent you exactly two emails. And they weren't
at all hostile, although I am sure that is what you are used to getting in
your pitiful little mailbox.
You are a sick puppy actually. VERY sick. I think you should seek the
professional psychiatric help you need.
Just my advice to you.

Could you take this somewhere else now? Every time I sit down to read
what people have to say about drum corps I end up reading about who
you're not! You seem to find a way into almost any subject, how about
starting a thread directed towards who you are or who your not! Then
the rest of us won't have to spend time reading it.
Just my opinion, I may wrong, but I have that right.
Later,
Greg
I have no problem reading your posts that pertain to the thread in the
subject line.
Sorry I was unclear in my previous post.
Greg
Sorry, Greg...
