I know, I know, you look around your house and see your clutsy clumsy
husband polishing his weapons and you must wonder, just how does that

Well, I did not get to be the world's best looking fat man without a
little moisturizing and hair coloring, just like I did not get to be
the world's loudest trumpet player without practicing and having the
best equipment and training.

so, to help you on the looks department, and I can honestly tell you
need some help, here are some good ideas that I found about
moisturizing...

Winter brings snow, cold temperatures and, for some people, the "winter
itch." "Dry skin, or winter itch, occurs when the top layer of your
skin loses moisture," says Dr . Mary Stone, associate professor of
dermatology and pathology at the University of Iowa College of Medicine
and staff physician at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
"The water in the top layer of your skin evaporates more rapidly during
the winter because the air is drier," she explains. "You can put
moisture into the air by using a humidifier. Or open the bathroom door
when showering or bathing. More moisture in the air means moisture will
evaporate more slowly from your skin."
As skin becomes dry it may also become itchy, and microscopic cracks
can develop in the top skin layer, Stone says. "Treat dry skin with a
moisturizer that contains lipids--oils--like petroleum jelly."
Stone suggests checking the label of the lotion bottle. If one of the
main ingredients is water--and it's the main ingredient in most
lotions--try to find one with oil listed as a major ingredient.
"If you use a thin water-based lotion, your skin will feel better for a
while, but the water will eventually evaporate, and you haven't gained
much. Creams and ointments usually are more effective than lotions,"
she suggests.
Winter air can chap the skin of children and adults, which can lead to
winter itch. "Prevent chapping by wearing hats, gloves, and scarves to
cover your skin," Stone says. When washing dishes or cleaning, wear
cotton gloves inside rubber gloves if you're using hot water and soap.
"The combination of soap and hot water can quickly dry your skin,"
Stone says. "Whether you take a shower or a bath, the hot water and
soap can dry your skin, too.
"Avoid using very hot water, use as little soap as you can manage--or
use a soap-free cleanser--and use a moisturizing cream on your skin
immediately after showering or bathing." If your skin is itchy, avoid
using alcohol, calamine lotion or powder--because all three tend to dry
your skin, she says. You can use a cortisone product--Stone recommends
the ointments rather than the creams, because they help hold moisture
in the skin--to alleviate itching. "But the most important treatment is
to keep the skin moisturized," Stone adds.
If your skin becomes red, hot, or weepy, see your physician. "These are
signs of a possible infection, and you need more intensive treatment,"
Stone says. "If you have dry skin all year long, you may have an
underlying medical problem for which you need to see your family
physician or a dermatologist."

has been many years, and I am shaky on some points. Isn't there some
passage about not being judgemental least you be judged or that God is
the ultimate judge? Isn't there passages about compassion and charity
for others? I thought that there was some passage about not throwing
stones until your own life is free of sin - or some such?
It is true that in the world of marketing you would have a hard time
selling your services if there were no superlatives. But, if you are a
good Christian, then should you be buying into heathen methods of
promotion? If you are all that great, then word of mouth in your
community should be enough.
If you are doing more than to preach to the choir about your issues,
then your post tone needs to change. What you write is exactly what
those of us who think Christians are often hateful and destructive
people despite their religion's ideas. Further, Christians seem to be
unsatified until they can force their religion down my throat; they
can't deal with people who think differently than they do with logic
and honesty. They must resort to invective and passive agressive
tactics (see your last post).
It is fine that you believe in God and certain issues in the political
realm offend you. I feel much the same way though it is reasonable to
assume that I am on the opposite end of your views. But, this does not
make it reasonable to use this newsgroup to try to advance your agenda.
It just adds to the noise, and it annoys many Christians and
non-Christians in the process. Please take thses posts to appropriate
groups. If necessary, I can help you find a few.

Thanks for posting that link. I found the screens and screens of
Howdy's illucid, self-promoting screed posted under several aliases
illuminating. IMHO, the worst thing you said was that Howdy is a troll
(I'd call him a mission poster and a spammer, but that's not much of a
difference), that he's posting spam (I agree), that he's also Jason and
T.J. Burke, and that he suffers from some sort of personality disorder.
IMHO, only the last is subject to dispute, but I won't be the one to
dispute it. Instead, I'll forward this link on to people who have more
experience in dealing with difficult people on USENET. They might even
find him amusing.

make that trip to K-Mart and to get a little help from PARIS, from

Ayurveda Can Help You Look Beautiful This Spring!

In the spring, Kapha dosha tends to escalate in most people's
physiologies, giving rise to Kapha-related skin problems such as
excessive oiliness, breakouts and a lack of clarity.
Cleansing and rejuvenation are the ayurvedic keywords for spring.
Spring skin care, in keeping with this overall theme, focuses on
deep-cleansing, exfoliation and gentle nourishment to prepare the skin
for the hotter months to follow.
Here are some ayurvedic skin-care tips to avoid Kapha-related skin
problems and to keep your skin looking radiantly fresh, clear and
alive:
Stringent cleansing, at least twice a day, is crucial. Choose a
cleanser that is right for your skin type. Avoid harsh cleansers in
general, and aim for purification while maintaining the moisture
balance of your skin. To make your own cleanser for dry or normal skin,
mix together 2 tablespoons of almond meal, 2 tablespoons coarse oatmeal
and a few drops of rosewater in milk or cream to form a smooth paste.
For oily skin, blend together 2 tablespoons coarse oatmeal, 2
tablespoons Bentonite clay, 1 teaspoon lemon peel powder and 1/4
teaspoon neem powder in fresh yogurt or water. Apply the cleanser in
smooth upward strokes to face and neck. Wait for 3-5 minutes; then
rinse off with lots of tepid water.
Once a week (twice a week if you have water or earth predominant Kapha
skin), treat your facial skin to at-home herbal steam therapy before
you cleanse. The herbal steam treatments will help release deep-seated
toxins and clear the channels of the skin, giving it room to breathe
freely. Choose herbs based on your skin type: lavender flowers and rose
petal powder, for example, work well for dry or normal skin, and neem
powder, citrus peel powder and holy basil powder for oily skin. Add the
herbs to a bowl of boiling water. Make a tent with a towel and hold
your face and neck above the steam for 8-10 minutes. Follow with an
appropriate cleanser.
Oily skin can also benefit from a quick daily exfoliation with neem
tea. Steep 1/4 teaspoon neem leaves in a pot of boiling water. Dip a
washcloth in the infusion once it has cooled a little and dab your skin
with the washcloth. Dip, squeeze and dab several times and then follow
with an appropriate toner. Make sure the cloth is at a comfortable
temperature before applying it to the skin.
For all-body exfoliation, use a mix of four parts chickpea flour or
coarse oatmeal and one part sandalwood powder, blended in a little milk
or water and a few drops of rosewater. Apply the paste to wet skin,
gently scrub rougher areas such as knees, elbows and feet with a
washcloth, and rinse off with plenty of tepid water.
Nourish your skin with a light application of a natural herbal
moisturizer. Botanicals such as Indian Sarasaparilla, Manjistha,
Marshmallow root and Turmeric are both cleansing and nourishing.
Cleansing from within is also important, to help purify the sweat
glands and blood. Eat cleansing vegetables high in water content. Eat
