Steve was one of the original members of the Madison Scouts Drum and
Bugle Corps, graduated from West High School in 1942 and then joined
the Army Air Corps.
As a member of the 49th Fighter Squadron, he flew 40 combat missions
over Germany in the P-38 fighter aircraft during World War II. During
his twenty year career with the Air Force, after the war ended, Steve
and his wife, Fluff lived in Japan, Mississippi, Alaska, Washington
and California.
During this time, Steve completed his Bachelor of Science in Electoral
Engineering at the University of Washington. After retiring from the
Air Force, Steve and Fluff moved to Sun Lakes where he was a member of
the Sun Lakes Golf Club.
He is survived by his two sisters, Lois Johnson and Nancy Housington;
his son, Tim Stephens of Corona Del Mar; a daughter-in-law, Mare
Stephens of Irvine; two granddaughters, Julie Kammerer of San Diego
and Ellie Dale of Mission Viejo; a great grandson, Logan Kammerer; and
numerous nieces and nephews, including Gail, Karen Steve, Brian, Glen
and Kay. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Margery
Stephens of Madison, Wisconsin and his wife, Fluff Stephens of
Banning.
Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery on Friday, November 27
at 10:15 a.m. at Staging Area #2. A memory gathering will be held at
the Sun Lakes Clubhouse, located in Sun Lakes Retirement Community in
Banning, California from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November
