The truth about Tony Florio and WGI

It has been an issue with instructors for years, instructors who feel the need
to take advantage of young boys in the activity at a vulnerable age. BUT I can
guarantee you Tony is not one of the people to do those things, he may have
done drugs yes, but the whole date rape, and child molesting issues that have
come up here on the newsgroup are not true whatsoever in my eyes. Tony Florio
messed up, he made a huge mistake, we ALL make mistakes, I am NOT in any way
standing up for him or trying to raise money for him (god knows I don't have
it), I am just stating that he messed up, the facts are clear, he is also
having the worst time of his life in jail right now, I promise you he is having
a miserable time, he is learning his lesson. If its true that he had the date
rape drug in his house then obviously he messed up a lot more, from what I hear
it was his boyfriends stuff not even his. I am SURE everyone one of us got
blamed for something that was not our fault. NO once again I am NOT saying he
is innocent or that he did not have anything to do with this, but HE KNOWS he
made a mistake, and he will get what he deserves for it. He may be doing the
"Cell Block Tango" by himself for a while but of course his family and his
guard family is going to try and stand behind him and help him because that is
what you do for your family no matter how bad they mess up, imagine you messed
up and your entire family turned their backs on you? I know Tony has burnt a
LOT of bridges over the years and some of you are sitting there saying "he had
it coming" but the truth is a LOT of you out there bitching are also doing
drugs because I know some of you personally so please don't go calling the
kettle black just yet.
I am on the fence I do agree that kids should NOT be around someone who is
dealing with this type of drug, no kid should be influenced by a role model on
drugs, but look at it this way, in 26 years of Tony teaching hundreds of
colorguards has he ever been in any trouble with ANY sort of sexual misconduct?
Or a situation like this at all before? Ever? I mean come on now, how many
times is Michael Jackson going to get away with molesting little boys? Tony is
not being accused of anything like that and after knowing him personally I do
NOT believe he would go and "rape" anyone. I have taught at high schools and
guards where staff members and guard members all did drugs all the time, I have
been in guards where staff members sleep with under aged boys, I have seen so
much crap in this activity that makes me sick, and I sometimes get ashamed of
it all, then I go home and watch the news, and I go to work and I see the same
stuff happening all around me, A lot of people make mistakes, and some people
are just sick and twisted and take advantage of younger boys, I GUARANTEE you
Tony was NOT using this drug within the colorguard activity, I spent a lot of
time around Alliance and I knew what was going on there, drugs were NEVER an
issue on that guard when I was around there. This activity is surrounded by
drugs, I have seen instructors doing coke and speed right before a practice,
its sad really sad to live their lives that way, but it's their lives and they
are not hurting any of us by doing it only themselves, BUT I agree KIDS should
NOT be around all of this, its a bad influence.
In the past 8 years WGI has gone from being something so great to hundreds of
guards folding, many world guards folding. This activity has gone down so much
in the past 8 years it's sad. Sure the talent level may have risen but think
about how much fun guard use to be back in the day compared to all the
backstabbing and "drama" there is now. I wish people could use this newsgroup
for what its for, not to Trash a huge name in WGI but discuss your fav shows,
talk about tosses and technique and leave the drama under your pillow.
Lets just drop the whole Tony Florio issue and lets hope he is safe and lets
pray he makes it out ok because not to get into it but he is having a HARD time
in jail right now.
I personally wish all the best of luck to the Alliance Family through these
trying times and My heart goes out to his mom Sherry Scott Florio I hope you
can get through this hard time you have many people here to support you.
Please let's drop the issue and pray Tony is safe wherever he is

That's in addition to fraud by management and staffers - or denial, at best.
It's interesting to speculate as to why Mr. Florio got singled out, and perhaps
setup. Either one is blackmailable (or has $$ or other valuable assets to "trade")
and thus stays "approved" in order to be protected in order to get ahead, or one has
too much character to ever be allowed to make it in the first place.
One sees the proof of such in what is NOT done in WGI, and in those auxiliaries
attached to drum & bugle corps - and the people who are geniuses one season, and
forgotten the next once it is determined they are of no more use to the machine...
That there has been fraud perpetrated and criminals involved in DCI and WGI since the
foundation of those organizations is no secret to those of us who have been around
this activity since those times - and refused to lie to ourselves and to others,
thinking that what we did and do doesn't require denial, lies and fraud.
But whatever the charges and the ultimate outcome in this particular case, please
identify yourselves as a courtesy to others and to the activity you allege caring
about. For it's obvious that those trollers within this activity are fomenting and
creating discussions on this subject hereon, in more evidence of fraud, via anonymous
screen names. Unfortunately, __________@aol.com or @yahoo.com or @webtv.net - and
often other ISPs - are often posts which ought to be viewed as suspect unless you
know who the poster is. (AOL and WEBTV posts have no identifiable ISPs; free,
non-ISP-related e-mail addresses are easily taken on and discarded; and impersonation
and/or posting from fake ISPs is thought by some losers to be "state of the art"
manipulation.) Trolling in our activity is already well known, as noted by some
posters here. Let the reader beware...
To decent people and posters out there, be aware that such manufactured drama appears
to have its uses to people who look down their noses at who and what you care about,
your right to be respected as human beings and told the truth, and to the health and
future or your activity. Given how WGI has come about over the years, it might
already be far too late - just as it is for DCI. But the future is not entirely up
to them - unless you or we allow it.

A search on "Flores" on the Broward County website (link provided) turns up no Tony
or Anthony. And a general Google search also turns up no recent hits up top.
Surely such a huge bust must have been reported in the more mainstream news... if
it's true.

OK - so I suck with names.
Just tried it with "Florio". Got one hit at Broward County's website on Jahred
David, and still nothing via Google at large. Am waiting... there wuz plenty of
interest just a few hours ago...
