How about suggesting the worst ideas you can think of for a marching band show.

How about an arrangement of "Mary Had a Little Lamb"? Ugh. It makes me
cringe just thinking about it. :(

What's wrong with Bolero?

PULP (pulp) n. 1.A soft, moist, shapeless mass of matter.
2.A book containing lurid subject matter, and being
characteristically printed on rough, unfinished paper.

NOthing wrong with Bolero. I love it. But I have a hard time imagining
a very interesting drill based on it. Marching in a circle for 10
minutes? Marching in place? Maybe just sitting down and waiting it
out!!

By the way, I thought of another one that would be even worse.
Beethoven wrote a short string quartet movement known as the Grosse
Fugge. It is an incredibly complex fugal piece and I suspect that any
band trying to march to it would come away with broken arms and legs!!

A cheesy 70's show featuring the fine work of Barry Manilow, Neil
Diamond, and of course Abba.

If my memory serves me...Madison Scouts played an abridged version of Bolero
that was unbelievable. Anyone recall when this was?

I like the "Schindler's List" idea. Let's take it a bit further. In these
times of political correctness overkill, don't you just have the urge to do
something utterly shocking and socially unacceptable? Dress the drum major
as Der Fuhrer and make a graphic reproduction of Auschwitz! I'm sure the
school cafeteria wouldn't mind the band borrowing their ovens...

Hey, you asked for a bad idea.

Madison Scouts are doing Bolero for 1996...they used it as their warm up
for their 95 show, and had the audience on their feet before they were
even done warming up! Maybe it's not such a bad idea?

That wasn't bad. That was crude and made a mockery of one of the most
tragic events in human history. The idea is overkill and should never
have been posted. Please grow up.

Hey, I like the "Schindler's List" idea. BUT NOT WITH ALL OF THE OBVIOUS
CRUEL PROPS LIKE OVENS. That is just SICK, SICK, SICK. It is SICK!

There is some beautiful music from that film. I purchased the soundtrack
and actually reviewd the music for a possible field show. Couldn't find
enough useable stuff. I think our show would have sounded like a 10
minute funeral. Beautiful stuff, though.

An addition to the DISCO idea:
The uniforms are polyester bellbottoms and a lesirure suit top.
We lay a huge tarp over the whole field that looks like a checked disco
floor.
The colour guard caries great big disco balls around the field in a
rendition of "Saturday Night Fever"
It all ends with a roaring finish of Micheal Jacksons "Thriller"

PLEASE TELL ME YOU WERE JOKING ABOUT THE DISCO !!!! I hated that crap. That's
one thing that can stay in the past. With one noteable exception.....I kinda
liked "Disco Duck".

I now regret putting schindlers list. I don't find anything funny about
all the comments that some people have been putting. I have a freind
whose grandparents died in the holocaust and I know he wouldn't find it
funny eather. I agrre it is beutifull music but making a joke about it
is not funny? Im sorry about the harsh words but its just my .02 cents.

Nothing against the Beatles, but hearing "Hey Jude" performed by a
marching band just doesn't float my boat. (Rather, it sinks my shako. Ha
ha ha... sorry about that. Wasn't funny.)

It was VERY abriged because it was their on field warm up and they just
stood still for it. But for the minute or so of it, it was amazing
musically. They are marchign a full length bolero as their operner this
year I believe.
