Surprised this hasn't been posted yet....this article is from
the Friday, June 23rd edition of the Omaha World-Herald...

Jay Kloecker, the longtime director of the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln marching band who has been charged with
conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault on a child, on
Friday was suspended from his duties at UNL.

The paid suspension, which stemmed from Kloecker's arrest on
Wednesday, will last until the conclusion of "due-process
proceedings," said Herb Howe, associate to the chancellor. The
university will undertake an investigation to determine if
university regulations have been violated, Howe said.

Investigators say Kloecker, 42, was arrested when he arrived in
Omaha expecting to have sex with a teen-age girl he had been e-
mailing since Feb. 1. The "girl" was an investigator who goes
online to target Internet crimes.

Can you cite a source where I can read this article? (Since I don't have
access to an Omaha World-Herald right now.)

If those links die, a search for Kloecker at http://www.omaha.com/Search/
in the top fields will get them back. I believe the third link is the one
that Sara posted.

Thanks. It's kinda depressing to see this sort of thing happening, but I
guess you never know what kind of weird stuff somebody's into in their
private life. Sheesh.

The marching band will be fine; Craig Cornish (not Kloecker) is the
marching band director. Kloecker's title is/was Director of Bands (an
administration role), in addition to teaching conducting and directing
the Wind Ensemble. He hasn't been the marching band director since
1994.. I'm not sure why the press pegs him as the marching band
director.

Do you know Nathan Kress? Former Drum Major for Nebraska

You betcha I do. :) Nathan and I played clarinet together in the Omaha
Area Youth Orchestras, and hung out a bit in high school. We drifted
when he got to college (he's a year older than me), but we're still
friendly and stuff. I assume you are out at Buffalo? I think that's
where he went..

I have read articles in newspapers where I have really known the facts. In
every case something was messed up in the paper.

I have concluded that the press is a very earnest group of people trying to
relate information to a generally disinterested public about subjects which
they know little or nothing about.

If they got everything perfect, you would really need to sit up and take
notice.:)
