For those of you who care, the game that finished in 34th place was "Coming
Home"; Rybread finished third from last, and CASK took up slot number 31.
Inform was the system of choice for the bottom five games. From my reading of
the list, (assuming Tempest was the highest placing game that didn't win a
prize), the author of E-MAILBOX got the award for "Best Newcomer", although
Babel was the higest placing of the first time entrants.
Don't ask me how I got this; my source made me sware that I would hide his
identity. (He got it from a friend who had entered the contest.)
Thanks

<humbly> Thanks to all who voted for "E-MAILBOX." Luc's post is the
first I've heard of the honor. (I *really* should get out more.)

Hey, ...
I *LOVED* E-MAILBOX.

It's certainly more polite to just e-mail it to appropriate person. Oh, well.
Anyway, now that we have the list, is it true that there is a (general)
co-relation between program size and ranking? It seems to me that the
shorter/smaller the game, the lower it ranks.

A dubious decision, but it helps me clear up a few things.

There is no "best newcomer" award. I should know, I'm the one not
giving it out :) The prize is in fact a "Novice Award" which is
only pickable by first-time entrants, with the additional stipulation
that should all contestants receive prizes, it will go to the highest-
ranked first-time entrant. What had not crossed my mind was what
might happen if it wasn't picked... Since Graham entered last year,
and Gary won something up higher for Dr. Aardvarkbarf, then you do
seem to be next in line for the prize. If so, that's great, and I'll
have to figure out how to send it to you.
If it was picked by someone higher up on the food chain, though,
then I would love to be informed so that I can send it to him or her.
Or, of course, there *is* a "best newcomer" prize, in which case I
don't know what's going on.
Has anyone been informed of the prize picks so far? If so, could you
e-mail me?

I would point to Erden as a counter proof...

Thanks. A few people (who shall remain nameless, so as to protect the
guilty) *didn't* get the point.
Didn't you say, "I laughed, I cried, I sent and received e-mail?"
(I'd have to check some files to verify same.)

There was a point?
Er, what was it?

You sent email! And it was cool! And there was a joke relating to
Zork! And it was one of those games from the competition that, though I
wouldn't put them on a top 10 list, were fun while playing!
