The Inform port of Ditch Day Drifter; by Mike Roberts,
originally partially ported by Chris Markwyn; has been
completed by Neil Cerutti and uploaded to the if-archive.
Currently, it can be found in two distributions:
source code:
ftp://ftp.gmd.de/incoming/if-archive/iditchs.zip
html version of source code:
ftp://ftp.gmd.de/incoming/if-archive/iditchs-html.zip
on ftp.gmd.de, but it should be moving soon to its final
destination:
/if-archive/games/source/inform/iditchs.zip
/if-archive/games/source/inform/iditchs-html.zip
The source code features:
Extensive comments intended for new Inform programmers
Uses most of the new features of Inform 6, including:
reverse keyword in grammar
general parsing routine
single-letter dictionary words, 'x//'
Glulx compatible, including examples of simple Glk calls
No library hacks
Examples of features of Inform 6, including:
parse_name, daemon, time_out, each_turn,
orders, life, invent
A liquid class which splits, pours and funnels
Numerous examples of commonly needed objects
An exhaustive, key-numbered, table of contents
Walk-through
Dumb Easter eggs
Simple NPCs, including one that follows the player
In addition, the html version of the source code features:
Syntax highlighting
Hyper-linked table of contents
Hyper-linked cross-references
The original TADS example game, Ditch Day Drifter, by Mike
Roberts, is an excellent example of game design, and a funny
satire of the original Zork style, and the "college game"
style. If you haven't played it yet, break out your compiler
and give it a try. It's a funny, nostalgic, well-designed
puzzle-fest. After you're done, try some more of Mike's
classic games, including Perdition's Flames, The Plant, and
Deep Space Drifter.
The Inform port is slightly more fleshed out than the
original TADS example game, Ditch Day Drifter. There are a
few alternate solutions, more actions, and additional
responses to logical-but-wrong actions.
Welcome to Ditch Day!

I swear. Deja must die. Why the hell did it REMOVE ALL THE WHITE-SPACE?
I'll have to repost later from an actual news-client.

One more try. If I can't get it to work this time, forget it. You'll
just have to believe me when I say that this message is meant to be
readable. Also, don't post from Deja's current Preview page.

Just what I was looking for, _The Iditchs Guide to Inform_

Ahem. No, really.

This looks very helpful. Thanks for the hard work.

We'll probably be seeing the reconstructed TADS version of Curses next!

This is marvelous!

So much of the sample source on gmd is for older versions of Inform or
carries a disclaimer something like "This is an early game and the code
is ugly." It's great to have a well-documented game in the latest
version of Inform to steal... uh... learn... from.

Thanks so much!

I don't know about that, but I heard someone is working on a
redneck port of Curses called Cusses. ;-)
