"Devil" (2010) was authored and produced by the acclaimed M. Night
Shyamalan, but directed by someone else. It's about a group of five
trapped in an elevator in a tall office building, and one amongst them
is the Devil but they don't know which. As well, the movie concerns
itself with the emergency efforts to free them, as the elevator
suffers intermittent blackouts and the murders begin to occur.

I liked but wasn't enamored with Shymalan's breakthrough Sixth Sense,
on the other hand I really enjoyed his The Village, which wasn't as
successful. Although he is not directing here, I would say it "feels"
sort of like a Shyamalan movie.

The actors are not well-known, at least not to me. They all seem to do
an okay job, but none really grabbed my attention. But the
performances were okay. Passengers get killed in the darkness in the
elevator and there's some amount of gore like a big jagged mirror
shard in the jugular, but I would say the violence tries to terrify
rather than gross out.

On balance Devil was an okay film with a good story.

Another "found genius" pushing his movie career down the drain...
Please Shyamalan please stop making movies or get a IDEA this time...

Well, The Devil was okay. It was an okay idea. I think if you're going
to utilize the claustrophobic concept of basing a film around a small
group trapped in an elevator, you've really got to work on the
dialogue, to draw in the viewer and make her or him care. I didn't get
that from this movie. So, I agree it is not one of Shyamalan's best.

I thought the idea was possibly worse than the execution. An awful film.

You two make me realize I should probably be a bit more critical of
these marginal movies in my comments. I usually tend towards being
kind, but I don't want to steer anyone the wrong way.
